Eta, Holmes got away with a lot of reach in fouls in the fourth quarter as well. The officiating wasn't one sided at all.

 

Very true. The push in the back by Arnold on McFarland near the end should have been an ejection too.

Sorry for having an opinion. I have seen Holmes play once this year, and that was tonight. They looked awful compared to what I was expecting.

 

Nothing wrong with your opinion. Just saying that you didn't see Holmes best tonight and I wouldn't jump to conclusions from one game. It's also tough to go on the road in a hostile environment like tonight at Boone and win. Holmes will rebound though. Everyone keep doubting them.

 

If I remember correctly, a lot of people said the same things last year about Holmes after they lost to NCC and all Holmes did was run through the rest of their schedule by an average of 25 ppg on their way to state.

 

Let's not forget this is still the ONLY KY team to beat Scott County and they only have 2 losses.

I think Boone's defense had something to do with that. Boone also did not make free throws well at the end.

It's funny though that Holmes loses ONE game and all of a sudden they aren't what they're cracked up to be. Two things to remember...

 

1. Last year Holmes lost to Newcath this same week and went on to win 10 straight on their way to the state title game.

 

2. Last team to beat Holmes this year, got thumped by 18 in a rematch on their home floor. :sssh:

I'm sorry. I just don't see it. They lost to an unrated Boone County team. Holmes may not even make it out of the 9th Region. I think Holmes was exposed tonight. I think Elliott would beat them by 8-13.

For Holmes, Pittman was the only one who stood out to me. I still have no clue why Henley sat him for so long when he wasn't in foul trouble. Same with Riley. I'm very interested in seeing their free throw percentage from this game. I know at one point during the first half they were something ridiculous like 1-10 and it didn't get much better in the second half. Gotta make your free throws to beat a good team like Boone, and Holmes didn't.

I've haven't seen Holmes as much as you but this is my 5th time this season and I have not seen the lack of effort that I saw tonight. As for your answer on Pittman it was obvious to everyone I was sitting with and talked to after the game that he was not playing up to his potential tonight. He kept going to the trainer and looking at his hand, but to me it was a non factor. Believe he hurt it on the goal tending call. All together his effort wasn't there on the rebounding end or the offensive end.

 

Also there is one weakness that Holmes never ever took advantage of, that would be the speed they have. Who ever Earls was guarding should have taken him to the basket everytime. No pick and rolls and no hard cuts made by Holmes tonight at all.

 

I rooted for Holmes b/c being a St. Henry grad I'll always look at Boone as a rival school, but tonight I didn't like the way Holmes played.

Looks to me like all the haters jumped on this thread as fast as they could get home. If I were one of them I wouldn't be to quick to bet the house that Boone could do this again. This is probably the best thing that could happen to Holmes whether or not anyone feels that way or not. I think they will become deadly from here out. Sorry NewCath, Campbell, Simon and Conner!!

Holmes is 23-2 you can't over rate that. They have already avenged one loss and in all probability will have an opprotunity to avenge this one as well. Good teams lose games too, The best NBA team ever lost 10 for crying out loud.

What happened to your prediction earlier in the season that Holmes would not lose to an NKY team, and nobody would come within 15?

Boone is very underrated on the BGP and Associated Press poll. They are not even top 20. McFarland and Boone's guards controlled the game. Riley and the Johnsons were not factors. Pittman had 12 in the first half and only 2 after that.

Boone won this game with defense. Holmes had no answer for Boone's tough halfcourt D. No penetration outside of a Pittman a few times. Holmes is just not good in the halfcourt set.

 

No one on Holmes could stop Gabbard tonite from penetrating. He's got the unique combo of strength and quickness that gave Holmes trouble. Fortunately for the Dogs they were able to alter his shots. He's a tough quick hombre.

 

There was no one on the floor tonite with the hops of Ronnie Cotton. He's a much better player than I thought he was.

 

If Boone shoots FT's just decently its a 18 to 20 point game. Atrocious.

I loved the over-rated chant and the fans rushing the court, don't thing Holmes will forget that at BOK. Hopefully this loss lights a fire under there tails like NCC did last season.

They may be a top 5 team in the state but a top 25 team in the nation is pushing it.
