Louisville Central 3 Peat

Featured Replies

I went from 1987-2006 looking at the past state champs. In those 20 years, there were never more than 2 schools to repeat at the same time in 4 classes. The first 2 years of 6 classes, 5 out of the 6 have gone back-to-back.(A man can only watch the Grammy's for so long with his wife before he has to get up for a while and do something else! j/k)

Nobody take this personal, because it's not meant in those regards, not in the least. Just facts. I'm just curious to see how long KY will be in a six class system, especially if all five of the past years winners end up a 3 peat or even 4/6 of the teams. (

The KHSAA has never reduced the number of classes offered in any sport to my knowledge. Many Bluegrasspreps folks predicted the haves would continue to dominate and the have nots may get a championship here and there.

I would agree that next year, we could very well see five three-peats ... that would be just another indictment of six classes.

Great point! :thumb:I've never thought about that before. Knowing that makes any speculation of decreasing the classes even more interesting.

That in part might be that there is not much room to reduce. I think football, cross country and track are the only sports that have more than one class. I do not have much of an opinion either way if the KHSAA will in the future but I just do not think the past is the best indicator.

3A has been kind to Central. They now have an advantage over several other JCPS in that they can truely compete for a state title. The other schools in Jefferson County still have to go through X & T in 6A. Central is building a tradition and getting better football players because of this success. It will be interesting to see how many years it will take the KHSAA to shuffle the deck again. I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to move Central up in class if they continue to dominate.

The Louisville schools in 4A and 5A have the same opportunity. Central also benefits because 3A is the weakest class in relation to enrollment.

If the KHSAA used straight enrollment figures, Central would be in 4A. They're in 3A only because the KHSAA is using the number of boys in school as the guideline for classification.
Central will 3 peat, but they wont be the only ones.

I remember back in the good ole' days (prior to the 2007 season) when going 'back-to-back' was something rare, at least in most classes, and 3 peating was just unheard of for the most part.

Six classes is a joke.

I totally agree.

IMO Central would still contend for the title in 4A.

Central will remain in 3A because they have the luxury of controlling their population. They are much like Manual. They do not have a "home school" boundary. They can pick and choose who they want to accept. The administartion has decided to stay small and hand pick the applicants to Central. Their only real competition is Manual. They have a true neighborhood setting which is a huge advantage IMO. If you look at the busing boundaries you will notice that west end students are bused to East end schools. East end kids are not bused to the West end. So, who can blame a kid for wanting to stay close to home and performing in front of their friends and neighbors.

How many girls play football. The enrollment is right because Central has very few boys. One of the smallest boy enrollments in 3A.

Why is the male enrollment so much lower than female at Central? Are they admitting more girls than boys every year? If so, why? If not, what else going on?

What else could be going on? What type of question is that? Central has always had more girls than boys to apply.

Back to the topic: Central has a good shot at going back to the championship game. Replacing 10 seniors that played is going to be tough. Good luck Jackets.

I believe the reason is because Central is a magnet school with a strong nursing prepatory curriculum, which attracts a lot of females. Someone more familiar with Central can correct me if I'm wrong.

ftbll4life - Sorry my question didn't meet with your approval. There are many possible reasons that a school could have more girls than boys. Rather than speculate about "What else could be going on?", I asked a simple question.

letherneck - Thanks for the reply. I had no idea the nursing program was that popular, but it certainly would explain the disproportionate number of girls in the school.
