Just wondering, but how long has the gentlemen in question been a Para Pro at Ryle? If he was hired just in the last year or two, then I am not so sure it passes the smell test! Anyone?

If indeed the above information is true, then indeed it doesn't pass the smell test, at least to me.... Now remember the child doesn't live in the Ryle school district and couldn't attend Ryle unless Dad was a Para Pro coach/employee for the Boone County Board of Education.

 

Now I just wonder, how many Para Pro coaches could any school have? I mean, if I need five great basketball players, could all of their Dads be Para Pro coaches for my team or for any one of the many teams at my school, thus allowing those five great players to attend my school legally, without having to move to within my district/county? Just wondering......

If he only coaches and does not work at a school in some other capacity (i.e instructional aide, etc.) then he is not permitted to choose the school. It is my understanding that Ryle lost out on an excellent boys JV coach last year because they would not allow him to transfer his son from another BCS.

Her Aunt lives across the street from her parent’s house and is in the Ryle district. This scenario would explain how she is able to play at Ryle, however it would be considered extremely unethical and in direct violation of KHSAA rules.

 

So if the blue quote is correct and if the red quote is correct the question

then begs to be answered, how does the young lady attend Ryle much less play basketball for Ryle?

Para-professionals are and can be considered classified employees. At least according to the job opening section at the BOE.

 

Name one that is ...... and at the same time .... prove it. (I know for a fact that there are none). And yes .... that is very important to this conversation.

 

I don't doubt you at all doubledeuce ..... but there are a lot of things that are worded certain ways ... simply because the BOE is bound to that language by law. There are also a lot of things that the BOE does to protect para-professionals which is in the gray areas of the law ... so .. things balance out eventually. But don't think for one second that you are going to find a para-professional COACH who is a classified employee. It isn't going to happen.

Good Lord, where did I say or even imply that Ryle is above reproach? All I said is that - knowing our AD fairly well - I am certain he would in no way, shape, or form condone or support a coach cheating or a situation in which Ryle was playing an ineligible player. If it's happening, I hope it's brought to his attention.

 

Your comment in post 36 comes across that Ryle's AD would not condone the actions that are spoke about above ...... For all I know ... you may be right. But there are more than a few who seem to think that they have evidence to the contrary. Personally ... I don't know either way.

 

But, I doubt that you are going to convince people when you say "knowing our AD fairly well" .... Well .... what I can tell you is this ... the court of public opinion is starting to take notice of certain things that happen at Ryle. When you intentionally try to draw attention to yourself (and there are a lot of people who seem to think that Ryle is constantly trying to draw attention to their selves) .. this is what is going to happen.

 

When it comes to the school in Union ... I think that people are going to be more careful in the future when it comes to aligning their selves with certain sports. Personally ... I am not sure if it is right or wrong ... but people are already taking notice.

Whether they are considered classified or not I am uncertain. But, I know of at least one para-prof. coach whos kid attends a school outside of their "home" district. And this is not at the school in Union.

I think it is a little late in the season to talk about someone playing out of district! District games right around the corner. Also, Moss and Winters, There has to be a reason they are not playing, anyone know the real details! Also, Hats off to the Ryle team, they have been playing very well without their big girls - all players really have stepped up for the challange!

And they will always have their detractors, as there is with ANY school. The "court of public opinion" is hardly determined by a few anonymous posters on BGP. That's so ridiculous it's laughable.

 

Interesting that you admittedly have no personal knowledge of this situation and say you really don't know what to believe, but your posts appear more than ready to support this allegation, you make nebulous claims about Ryle not operating honestly, and further claim that Ryle has some increasingly negative reputation throughout the community that is going to scare people away from attending the school. Doesn't sound biased to me at all. All I've ever said is that I feel very comfortable that our AD would never knowingly allow such a situation and that, if it is indeed going on, that I hope it is brought to someone's attention. So who appears more biased? BTW, with what perfect and impeccably-reputable school are you aligned?

The program is an absolute joke. Check addresses. Some very good players are not even getting a chance.

 

I see that the players that they have are comitted to winning and doing the hard work it takes to win. They have battled through a lot of injuries and personal issues to be a very competitive team. I applaud the coaching staff to allow the younger girls who have shown they can play at a varsity level to play. I am sure they have heard the typical rumblings from parents who feel that their child isn't recieving enough playing time but that is a part of team sports. Anyone remember Doug Schlomer? Started for Holmes in the mid 70's as an 8th grader. Never heard the Holmes fans complaining.

I think we need to see a little more before we compare any of these girls to Schloemer, one of the all time 9th region greats.

I think that the reality of both situations is that we are BOTH expressing our opinions. You can't prove yours any better than I can prove mine.

 

As far as being biased ... maybe. But I think that there is a lot more negative conversation (which is starting to show in a public forum) about the kingdom that is "the school from Union" ... than what those people want to hear about. The reality is ... most of the those people are NOT perfect .. but CLAIM to be.

 

From MY point of view--it isn't any different than any other school. There are some really bad things that happen .. and there are some real bad things that are made up.

 

I do find it amusing that you would even begin to suggest that I am making "nebulous claims" ..... my claims aren't any worse than yours--where you automatically assume that the AD is going to handle things the right way. Which again .. is interesting ... because I was very clear that the 2 reasons why he would get involved would mean that it usually isn't him making the first step in the investigative process. (which means--it isn't a character flaw of the AD-- it is a character flaw of the process).

 

From a personal perspective ... I will say this ... the way that past coaches have been treated at Ryle leaves a lot to be desired from my point of view. That is where my axe is grinding. Certain people are brandished about as if they are really doing great things .. but the reality is that it isn't always the truth.

 

For the record .. the schools that I am aligned with get MUCH more scrutinty than Ryle ever has or ever will .... is it justified? Some is and some isn't. Just like in this case. In the end .. we still walk away here with your opinion and mine ... which isn't so bad. I am just not real sure that the people of Ryle are going to learn anything if they keep pretending that things are perfect.
