A couple of members made the allegation that one or more of Ryle's players don't live in the Ryle school district. Can you address this issue? Are any of the girls playing for Ryle not living in Ryle's district and if so how is it they are able to play for Ryle? I certainly understand that if one of them has a parent working in the school system that would be one "legal" way to do it and I am sure there are others.

 

I am not saying anything wrong is being done I am just asking for the cards to be put on the table to either debunk or substantiate the allegation.

 

Know nothing about your members' allegations but I do know that for any student to be enrolled in a Boone County School they must reside

in the district. The only other students that are allowed to attend a Boone County school if they are out of district are children of employees of the school system. So if a player is attending Ryle High School then they were approved by the Central Office or they would not be in the school. Everyone who enrolls a child in a Boone County school has to show proof of residency.

She is still at Ryle but it is pretty obvious that if she wishes to continue her HS BB career she will have to transfer. That will likely require that her family move. Significant, significant decision that affects the entire family which includes four siblings. Sad this thing turned as it did. But probably could have had no other conclusion.

The child of a para-professional does not get the same consideration as a certified employee when it comes to which school they go to. If the parent in question is a certified employe (ONLY) they can attend a different school in the county. Definitely not the case if the parent is a para-professional (and a teacher in another district).

This much I can tell you for certain - if Ryle's AD caught any wind that one of his athletes was faking residency, he would look into it and immediately address it. I can assure you that nothing like this goes on with his blessing or by intentionally turning a blind eye.

Hey, if Ryle is indeed doing something improper, then by all means I hope someone does send a letter or call him.

Everyone is tip-toeing around the ‘address issue’ of some players. Here is what I have heard..Cheesman (fresh point guard) lives at home with her parents who reside in the Walton-Verona district. She does not qualify to play under the Para-Professional parameters due to part time coaches are NOT considered para-professionals. The only way a player could play at Ryle when their parents still live out of district is that guardianship is given to another family member. Her Aunt lives across the street from her parent’s house and is in the Ryle district. This scenario would explain how she is able to play at Ryle, however it would be considered extremely unethical and in direct violation of KHSAA rules. Word on the street is that this is common knowledge among the W-V community. Ashley is a good player and would definitely help the WV program, but as stated before in previous posts, too much baggage comes with her and it’s best she stays at Ryle.

Ummm .... para-professionals ARE considered "part time" in a sense. Plus--as previously stated--Para Professionals DO NOT get the same "your kid can go to any school in the county right" as classified employees. If a coach is a para-professional (or less--if that makes sense) .. the parent can not choose the school that their son/daughter gets to go to.

Good Lord, where did I say or even imply that Ryle is above reproach? All I said is that - knowing our AD fairly well - I am certain he would in no way, shape, or form condone or support a coach cheating or a situation in which Ryle was playing an ineligible player. If it's happening, I hope it's brought to his attention.

This is a huge loss for Ryle. Moss and Crittendon were a formidable tandem. They would have been a force to be reckoned with the next 3 years. It is unfortuante we will not be able to see Ms. Moss further develop into an outstanding player. I predict we will see this young lady playing at the highest level when she leaves H.S. Good luck to Sidney Moss.

Agreed!! She has a great future ahead of her if she continues to work hard.

I believe the Crittendon girl has the potential to play at a High D-1 level also. Saw her play once, a couple games back from injury, and she impressed the heck out of me. Plays hard and has the physical tools to be the best player in the region by her junior year.
