Ryle Basketball

Featured Replies

Something that has seemed odd to me about Ryle basketball is numbers. They seem to have all freshman and sophomores on varsity. Their freshman team looks to have one or two players on the bench.

1500 kids and that's it?

What's the issue?

Actually, Ryle has 2000+ kids.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Ryle's varsity team consists of:

(2) Eighth Graders

(3) Freshman

(6) Sophomores

(2) Juniors

(2) Seniors

I know they lost two seniors due to medical reasons.

They lost three or four more juniors/seniors due to attrition.

Both of the seniors and one of the juniors never get to play.

They have three freshman playing varsity and a few playing JV. So, it doesn't surprise me that they only have six or seven on the Freshman team.

They do have talented eighth and ninth graders. So, they are a young team that should be good for the next few years.

Sounds as if they are playing the best kids, which is the way it should be.

Ryle has about 1200 students boys and girls. 2000 where did you get that number from?

A little over 300 left to go to Cooper. The enrollment shown in the link is for 2007.

As you mentioned, your link is from 2007. It's old data.

The senior class is the smallest class currently attending Ryle.

There are around 500 seniors in this years class.

You can figure it out from there.

Your information is inaccurate. Ryle does NOT have 2000 kids, nor anywhere close to it. Their class sizes are around 400 at each grade level, give or take. Their enrollment is somewhere around the 1600 range.

They still have had good players there. Winters and Moss are two talanted big girls that are no lnger there. Something just feels funny about the program. Gray MS is one of the feeders and they are always players at the MS level?

While still competitive, the program is definitely in disarray.

Probably not the best choices made by the hiring comittee in the last couple opportunities.

Ryle is definitely young. They also have made a couple of interesting hires in their girl's basketball program recently. These hires seem to be geared towards 2 or 3 years from now and not the present. As far as kid's leaving the program, it would be hard for upperclassmen to stay, especially when they are not playing.

Moss is no longer with the team.

Agree 100 percent. If the upperclassmen are not playing, then why stay. One of the guards I remember from her middle school days is Savannah Briggs. I noticed she is no longer on the team.

The program is an absolute joke. Check addresses. Some very good players are not even getting a chance.

They do seem to have some kids from "outside" of the area that would normally feed Ryle.

Moss is no longer with the team.

Since when? I thought she rejoined the team in late fall, missed 4 games and was then back. Is she gone again?

What is going on in the Ryle Girl's basketball program is not "funny" nor is it in disarray. Instead I see it as impressive. The administation made a great hire

in Oliverio and she brought in outstanding assistants. The FACT is they are beating and competing with teams that consist of mostly upperclassmen

with 2 8th graders, 3 Freshman, 2 Sophmores, and 1 Junior playing most of the minutes. The 16 years before the current coaching staff took over Ryle

NEVER had a winning season and had only won 18 games in the two prior

seasonds combined. With the current staff the program is 33-15 in the two

seasons they have taken over the program, with alot of games still left to play this year. Why is it every time players quit, chose not to play for various reasons, or are removed from a team then something must be wrong

with the program? From the success of the program under the new coaching staff and from how hard the players play the games I have seen them play

the coach obviously has the right personnel on the floor and in the program.

The very young Varsity is 12-8, the J.V. is undefeated, and the Freshman program has gone 33- 5 the last two years. This program is WINNING now

not 2-3 years from now. Oliverio has a reputaion of buiding very successful programs built on hard work, discipline and a team concept. Her teams have won over 400 games in both softball and basketball in 15 years, with 6 Regional Championships and 3 Final Four State finishes. I believe this speaks for itself.
