Good point...Raceland might just win both of those games...and that won't be solely because of the QB either.

 

I tell you what, though...if Raceland beats Ashland at Putnam Stadium again coming out of the gate this year, then it is becoming clear that the football program at Raceland is really becoming something special.

 

If you can lose the area sportsman of the year in Boyles, two fast and powerful backs in Denton and Carver, one of the best linemen to come through the area in a while in Logan, and the enormous Swede and STILL go beat one of Ashland's best teams in a while, then that is really making a statement.

I'll tell you right now, beating Ashland this year will be very tough. And, in my opinion, it is not about what Raceland lost, but about what Ashland has back. It will be hard for any area team to beat Ashland this year. They will be good.

I'm not trying to jinx you! :-) I would rather see Raceland beat Ashland than not any day of the week! I just think the Rams will the underdogs in that one...because like Ram said, Ashland is going to be the best in the area this year. I'd love to see Raceland pull it off up there again, and I was just commenting on what a HUGE win that would be...should it happen.

They really will be. Raceland and Greenup County must have drawn the shortest straw or something being the road team both weeks!

Ashland is going to be tough this year! They have the capabilities of bieng the best team in this area! They have a very very good runningback this year! Raceland will have to play one heck of a football game no doubt about that!

 

I love the way the first two weeks schedule works out this year. I get to see Greenup/Ashland on Friday, Raceland/Boyd Cco. on Sat, Raceland/Ashland that following friday, Greenup/Russell the next night. All in two weeks time period!!

Excuse me if this was already posted in this massive thread, but when does Raceland start practice? I saw in the Greenup thread where practice starts tonight (July 16th). Russell doesn't start until July 27th. Why such a difference?

Raceland has already started I believe. We had a passing camp last friday and saturday. And I believe they followed up with practice on monday.

I agree, Ashland is going to be some kind of tough, the Tomcats will be hard to handle for anyone..... they are loaded for bear (or Rams:eek:) and hunting.

Raceland certainly has lost alot to graduation from last season but imo the Rams will be better than some may think. As good as last season?....Probably not and the only thing I can and will promise is that the Rams will show up for every game, play hard, hit hard and will not quit. We (Raceland) certainly cannot "take a week or even a single play off" at any point in the season or we will leave with a loss. Raceland's schedule is loaded as always. Like I said all of last season, Ram players.......... "Fear no one but Respect all".

 

I think that we can all tell that we are ready to line it up an start playing football..........I believe every team is! Time for Hank, Jr. to break out in song :lol:...........are you ready for some football???

 

Good luck to ALL teams....except for the week you play Raceland and may ALL teams stay injury free throughout the season. :thumb:

Any school is allowed to start practice on July 15. I posted the Bylaw a page or two back, you can check it out. But, basically, contact practice can not start until Aug. 1.

 

Raceland has already started lifting and conditioning, and I believe actual organized practice will start Monday. And Contact practice will begin on, or about, the first of August.

Correct. They take the field at 7pm Monday. Practice starts at 6 but they'll lift first, I believe.

Actually, the Rams will be on the road for the first three weeks of the season (Boyd Co., Ashland, & Fleming Co.) before coming home.

I have been thinking about the part of your post that I have bolded and it has been mulled over and it has rolled around in my head to the point where I want to say this and maybe this is just the proud fan and being associated with the program coming out in me but......Raceland has 30-8 record the past 3 years and was the #1 ranked 1A school going into week 13. We have beaten Ashland 3 consecutive years and only lost 3 games in three years to local teams. Raceland has traditionally been a good 1A team but in recent years, they have been able to turn it up a notch and compete with higher level teams and consistently stay in the State's 1A top 10. Look at Raceland's non-district schedule, not one team below 3A. The only 1A teams that we will play is in our district and in the playoffs. I think that it speaks volumes that Raceland can schedule larger schools and go in as the favorite in a lot of cases and produce. I will say this proudly with regards to the mentality of the team and it's coaches; they expect to win every game they play. There are still a lot of stunned and saddened Raceland Rams from the Regional championship game last November. Now, will we be 12-1 or better this year? Can't tell you, but I know that the players and coaches will play like they are the best in the state and expect to win them all.

Well said Doc. I think the biggest thing, is that, despite huge losses of quality players to graduation, the Rams still have quality players returning, & with the great coaching staff they have, will always have a chance to win any game on their schedule. There will never be an excuse made by anyone (if they're honest) that this coaching staff doesn't do a great job of preparing (in regards of the gameplan) the players for a game, or putting them in the best possible situation for the chance to win as a team, as well as individual personnel.

 

You couldn't ask for a better staff. For the reasons mentioned above, Raceland will always have a good chance to win no matter who they play.
