Would love to see the stats on the 16th region. I know they had some good runs back in the old days...
Billy Clyde Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 I know Ashland made alot of noise in the late 60's. What about the 70's for the 16th?
16thBBall Fan Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 74 Greenup's first year as a high school they got hammered in either the quarter's of semi's. But overall the 16th has had 5 state Championships and 6 runnerup's. The last being Ashland's runnerup to Paintsville in the 1996 state championship.

Since the teams moved into Region 4 in 1966: 47-39 4 State Championships (1968, 1976, 1984, 2004) 1 State Runner-Up (2005) 7 Semifinalists (1974, 1979, 1991, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2007)
Billy Clyde Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 In the same timespan for the 4th Region: Since 1981: 30-26 (.536) 2 State Championships (1984 & 2004) 1 State Runner-Up (2005) 5 Semifinalists (1991, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2007) A whole lot of semifinal finishes, but there are a lot of first round losses. Do you know who Logan County (1984) and Warren Cent. (2004) beat in the finals? Logan Co. beat Bourbon Co. and Warren Cent. beat Mason Co. both 10th Region teams. That's pretty interesting.

DragonFire Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 -The 11th Region is the unquestioned region of this decade. They are 21-6 during the 2000s, have three titles, a runner-up finish, and two final four finishes. -More than half of the years during this span, the 11th Region put a team in the final four or further. Only six years have they lost their first game. -There have been 420 games played in the Sweet 16 since 1981. 32.4% of those games were won by teams in the 6th, 7th, and 11th Regions. -Only five regions have winning records since 1981. The 11th (.676), the 7th (.652), the 6th (.631), the 10th (.552), & the 4th (.536). -The 12th has one of the oddest records during the time. They have the fourth most state titles with three, and a runner-up finish, going 15-1 in those four seasons. In the other 24, they are 3-24. -The 14th Region has not had a team win two games in the tournament in 23 years. -The 16th Region only had one team win two or more games since 1981, that being Ashland in 1996. They are 8-27 outside of that season. -Not coincidentally, the lowest three winning percentages come from the regions with no state titles. -The 10th Region had the most seasons end in the quarterfinals, with that happening 11 times. -The 6th Region is tied for the most titles and is third in winning percentage, but has not put a team in the championship game since 1995, winning all their titles in the first 14 years of this sample. They are 9-13 from 1996 on. -I didn't go looking for individual schools, but I know Mason County went to the tourney 12 times during this span (42.9% of all tenth region appearances), and Warren Central went 10 times (35.7% of all fourth region appearances).
