A RESPONSBLE doctor would look at the overall picture of the patient. Her health, her well being, her reproductive history, her socio-economic background as well as impact of fertilizing EIGHT embryos which is unheard of in today's medical world. Real doctors look at the overall picture. Fertility specialist are, hopefully, not mindless specialist who use no common sense and look no further than then the next vessel to fertilize. Someone dropped the ball here. Someone was feeding into someone's neurotic (and I do not use the term loosely) need to have children.

I was going to get on here and retract my original post after learning more about the process which I must admit that I'm ignorant. After listening to a doctor this morning I have to lean towards the doctor being irresponsible. He claims that in vitro with twins is about max before you start worrying about the health of the babies and of the mother. One point I will disagree with is the socio-economic issue. If the mother is healthy and the pregnancy is viable the financial/marital status should not be a factor.
February 1, 200917 yr Already having six children under the age of 7, one at least with special needs, and then having more children is irresponsible IMO. She is not married and cannot financially support the children she already has at home. Not that being married or financially prepared is a prerequisite for good parenting, because sometimes things, "happen." This is different in that she wanted to be pregnant.

Perhaps not the doctor, but someone, just like when people try to adopt or foster a child, they do a background check to see that you are fit to be a parent, capable of providing for the child and taking good care of them. The same should be done in this situation as well in my opinion.
February 2, 200917 yr If she can raise all these children without getting financial assistance from the gov't. then that's fine. But if I'm paying for raising these kids then I do think it's irresponsible to have them. I've put 1 through college and have 2 in school right with no gov't help. I can't afford to help anyone else.

That suggests that she resides with her parents, not how she is supporting herself. If her parents are supporting her, is that better? I heard that her...lover?...is a contractor in Iraq. Just because they aren't married does not necessarily mean that he isn't providing her with support. BTW, fertility treatments aren't cheap and those aren't provided via welfare. So...someone has some money.

February 2, 200917 yr Author The article suggests that mom and dad are getting ready to kick her out. It also says that the woman told somone that she was paid to participate in this fertility program. Perhaps it was some kind of fertility research program?? A single mom with 14 children under the age of 8, including 8 newborns. No doubt she is going to make it on her own.
