Trees, they are a-fallin'

Ok...I have heard two trees/branches fall in the past fifteen minutes. I have four old oaks that surround my house and I have checked them and see no signs of damage yet. Unfortunately, it is just a matter of time. Ice here is at least half an inch thick on branches and continually getting worse. There seems to be a great deal of liquid water hitting the ground and lots running off the trees, but surely that is going to turn soon, with night time temperatures dropping.

 

At the moment, I have electricity. (McPapa, is there a "cross your fingers" smilie?) Also, my local stations are available on my satellite, but not the others.

 

Check that...tree/branch #3 just fell. I heard it.

Power just went out. I have heard tree branches falling all night. I'm trying to conserve battery power.

I just heard some big branches fall outside my bedroom windown. I have 3 huge Oak trees and several other types around my home and I am keeping a close eye and hoping for the best.

It's been insane! Working for the local electric company doesn't make it any better! :lol: So far we've gotten all the power in town on. Hopefully we'll have no more outages.

My local electric company Jackson Energy has over 5,000 customers out right now out of 51,000 customers. It is getting bad.

The fire department just left our house. Man am I shook up! I was in bed and heard a horible crash and a rushing noise like an avalanche. Turns out a huge part of the tree up against the back of the house has fallen on to our deck. Then we started smelling something that smelled like something being too hot or wire burning. Called 911 and the firemen went all through the house, attic and basement. They used a special camera to try to locate hot spots; but they cant locate the source at this point. They had to go on another call but said if it gets worse or anything happens to call back. Now we're just sitting here on pins and needles. :eek:

We are a mess here...trees and limbs everywhere. They hit the house and my husbands truck. We are getting ready to go out and see how much damage we have.

I just got back in from walking the dog. It is still raining here; and what's happening is that every so often a tree will drop its ice. I'm not hearing them snap, I'm hearing them "shed."

Thanks, I think we're okay. Just trying to keep an eye on the house to make sure nothing sneaks up on us. Anybody have a chain saw...and want some free lumber?

I have estimated that I can do an every two hour quick look at BGP and keep battery power on the laptop. I'll certainly be checking in on you, BF!

No trees falling here. We had freezing rain all night up here in nky, but it just turned to snow, so the temps are dropping which is going to cause all of that to freeze within the next hour or two. I'm just glad I'm off work and don't have to get out in this mess right now. I believe we're on a level 2 or level 3 snow emergency up here in nky.
