My thought is no there shouldn't be a AA or AAA or whatever, but at the same time, I think there shouldn't be a Class A. For those who like the Class A but nothing above the Class A, let me ask - If it makes no sense to separate classes above A for their own tournament, then why does it makes sense for Class A to have its own tournament? If we don't want to spoil the greatest tournament in the US as was suggested on earlier posts, then doesn't the Class A tournament do just that?

You could set aside a week and weekend for them during the mid season. I would do this for all 6 classes.

AAA WKU

AAAA- Memorial

AAAAA- Rupp

AAAAAA- Freedom Hall

 

I personally think you could keep it as is but if you are going to do a A and AA, may as well do them all.

 

I think it would be a good idea to do this along with the regular state tournament....I think you have all of these tournaments the same time the all "a" regularly is...This would allow for class champions and a main champion.

Several of the AA schools in football are in the All "A" Classic, including Middlesboro in our region.

 

Others include: Caldwell County, Heath, Murray, Sheldon Clark (3A in football), Prestonsburg, Somerset (3A in football), Green County, Butler County (3A in football), Edmonson County and others.

 

You might want to check your football classifications...Green Co. (2A), P'Burg (2A), Caldwell Co. (2A), Heath (2A), & Murray (2A).

How is the all A and all A with teams that are 3A in other sports? I like the idea of the class system for all if some are going to get to do it. Some of the A schools (if that's what you call them) get to play in two state tournaments while other teams (who are just as good) do not get to play in any.

I usually say that with the money they make at the boys state tournament there will never be classes.

 

BUT, with the way people sue today, it wouldn't surprise me that some AA school that has a father as a lawyer with his son playing brings forth a lawsuit on why the other sports have class tournaments and basketball does not. As a result, you are limiting his son's scholarship opportunities.

 

This is a similar argument that was used to force the KHSAA to move from slow-pitch softball to fastpitch.

The All "A" Classic gives small schools a chance to play in a state tournament atmosphere and do nothing to mess up the great tournaments in March. You can do both.

Have this tourney in January. The state doesn't have to recognize it. Then continue to have the district, regional, and state tournaments just like they do now. A win, win for everyone!

I'm sure a lot of bigger schools could care a less about winning their "class" tournament because they would be worried about the real thing in March. IMO it just would be kind of a waste of time to have 3 or 4 class tournaments in January.

Well the way I look at it is a lot of the bigger teams play in tournaments around this time of the year anyways so why not make one for all classes and keep the big one.

These tournaments at this time are 2-3 days at the max, a class tournament would be about a 2 week tournament probably consisting of 6-7 games depending on how many teams are in your class in your particular region and how far you get. I mean it's just my opinion, if I were an athlete I would not really care about winning a class tourney that is not going to even show as a championship to the KHSAA when the greatest show in hoops is right around the corner in March.
