Greenup County names Mike Copley the new Football Coach

Featured Replies

Copley will be "officially" hired at the BOE meeting tonight as head coach.... he will be at school late next week to start meeting the kids, and the school is going to host some kind of parent meeting and the media will be invited also.

Good thing it will be late NEXT week, because with the way things look, there will not be school this week at all! I can't wait to meet the new coach.

BOE Meeting did they hire Coach Copley? Last night meeting was only 20 minutes long. Online meeting minutes doesn't state they hire anybody.

Coach Copley is just what we need. I say he'll make a big statement his first game. Russell is down this year. That kind of win can help throughout a season!

That will be a good christening.

Doesn't Greenup County open with Ashland in week 0 and Russell in Week 1?

Russell is week 1 and Ashland is week 8. That's from last years schedule.

I am pretty sure that Greenup County is playing Ashland in week 0, then Russell in week 1. Greenup County chose to have the buy week during the season, so they have a week 0 game, Russell and Raceland do not have a buy week so they both start in week 1.

So GC is not playing Ashland during the regular season? Week 0?

Week 0 can be the first week of the season if a team chooses.

If a team wants a bye week during the season they have the option of only playing one scrimmage in the preseason, and starting their regular season in "week 0", giving them 11 weeks to play 10 games and thusly giving them one week off.

If a team does not want a bye week during the season, they can play two pre-season scrimmages and start their regular season in "week 1", giving them 10 weeks to play 10 games and thusly not giving them a week off during the season.

It is up to each school to decide if they want a bye week this season or not. I am pretty sure that Greenup County and Ashland chose to have a bye week, that is why they are playing in week 0. Raceland and Russell chose to not have a bye week, so they start their season in week 1.

I just learned something. I wouldn't want a buy week. I like how Raceland and Russell has their buy week at the end of the season right before the playoffs.

I would prefer to have a bye week between the regular season and the first playoff game, but this year we don't have a bye week at all.

I wish the KHSAA would just go back to having one week off before the palyoffs for everyone. That seemed to be the best approach to me. Play 10 games, take a week off to prepare for the teams that you have not seen all year, then start the playoffs. That seems to be the best way to do it, as far as I'm concerned.

But, the KHSAA didn't ask me.:idunno:

I think that's a good idea!

That's the way it was in the 80's and early 90's, it seemed to work out better then having the bye week during the season to me.
