....Marc Topkin of the St. Pete Times is reporting that the Reds signed outfielder Jonny Gomes to a minor-league deal. I'm trying to confirm with the Reds.

Well if we get into a fight we know we are in good shape. :D

When he was younger, he flipped a coin to see who would get shotgun between him and another one of his friends. He lost and had to sit in the back and they got in a wreck. The guy who was in the front seat was killed.

Pretty crazy story and I am pretty sure it was about him.

Yeah he's pretty good at coming in from behind and delivering cheap shots in the pile. :thumb:

Gomes is a free swinger who has a history of hitting lefties. He's also a defensive liability.

.266 with 25 homers and 127 strikeouts in 414 at bats. Not exactly raking but decent pop. I don't see him being a good spare outfielder given his defensive shortcomings.

Didn't they have that, when they had Adam Dunn? :idunno:

^ I think they will give him plenty of time to find out.

I'm sure they will. I just don't think I'd expect a repeat of his 2008 numbers. A lot of Reds fans think that he'll replicate that over a whole season and I just don't see it. There's a reason he was in the minors until he was 26. He didn't make it through the league even one whole time, it'll be much tougher this time around. Leftfield is a HUGE question mark for this team.
