Jonny Gomes Signs With the Reds....

Featured Replies

I'm sure they will. I just don't think I'd expect a repeat of his 2008 numbers. A lot of Reds fans think that he'll replicate that over a whole season and I just don't see it. There's a reason he was in the minors until he was 26. He didn't make it through the league even one whole time, it'll be much tougher this time around. Leftfield is a HUGE question mark for this team.

Just ask Jay Bruce how much tougher it is to hit, once they figure out how to pitch you!!

This Reds team has made a bunch of cosmetic moves. They'll still be LUCKY to win 75 games this season.

No matter what people say or want to think, this team's success will hinge on it's pitching staff.

If Aaron Harang can bounce back, Edinson Volquez can keep command of his change up, Johnny Cueto continues to improve, and Bronson Arroyo plays even remotely as well as he has in the past, this team will be a pretty good squad. There are even a few quality pitchers / prospects looking to get the 5th spot in Micah Owings, Darryl Thompson & Homer Bailey.

As a Reds fan, I'm excited. Finally the Reds management seems to understand that games are won (and lost) on the mound. And as uncommon as it is, they haven't mortgaged our future to do so.

You are placing a lot of faith in Bronson. He of the .500 career record and the 4.31 career ERA. He is a #5 starter with a lot of charisma. Cueto's improvement isn't a given with his propensity to give up homers. The Reds are a 75 win team. The #5 suspects aren't even average--unless you count Owings bat.

Bronson is a quality end of the rotation pitcher. Last year he had some absolutely horrendous games, but other times he looked like he should be competing for the Cy Young. For Bronson, it all boils down to his mechanics and hopefully he's been working on that this offseason.

Bronson, IMO, is a very good 4th / 5th starter. And, for the first time in years, that's what he's going to be on this team. I'm hoping that Cueto can improve & the other 2 studs will be healthy & pitch like they're capable.

Good luck with that. I hope I'm wrong but this is a 75 win club at their best. But hey, keep on keeping the faith.

The Reds won 74 games last year. You don't think this team is better than last year's version?

I think that Cincinnati's lineup has some obvious holes. That hole, undoubtedly, could be filled by Manny Ramirez's bat. :D

In all seriousness, I think the Reds pitching staff is going to be good enough to compete with anyone. Assuming that Harang returns to form and Cueto continues to improve.

It's been a while since any Reds fan could say that.
