Elliott played Fairview in the All A Classic 16th Region Tourney.

 

Elliott lost 66-62 to Mason Co. last year in the 1st Round and I think Mason did pretty good in the State Tourney after that.

OK, still don't see your logic. Holmes beat Scott Co. in the FOURTH game of the year on a neutral court. Scott Co. just beat Bryan Station on Bryan Station's home court by 27.

 

Your always try to spin things to Holme's advantage.

 

I agree Holmes is a very very good team and you are the biggest fan that Holmes has, but why do you always have to make the Holmes team and players "king of the mountain" and every other team out there "second class citizens". You always have to one up everyone that post on this site.

 

You say Elliott does not play any competition, they only have one loss. You talk about Holmes W/L record but don't recognize Elliotts W/L record.

 

You talk about Scott Co. having a worse W/L record than Holmes, but if you look at Scott Co's schedule, they have played a tougher schedule than Holmes, but you don't recognize that.

 

You talk about common opponents, Boone Co. beat Conner by 16, but Holmes only beat Conner by 7. You say Boone is in the 2-10 ranked teams that is in the 9th but you say that the second best team in the 9th is a very distant second.

 

Man, other people on here have teams just like you do. I'm glad you're proud of your team, but let other people 'thump their chest" a little too without constantly trying to "one-up-them" with the Holmes team.

Holmes has played 4 games against top 10 teams (6 against top 20) and 3 of those games were against top 5. Using the computer system, Holmes has the 3rd toughest schedule in the state. To question Holmes schedule is somewhat comical.

 

As far as the teams not scoring a lot of points, I'd say that has a lot to do with Holmes being a good defensive team. Holmes held Scott Co to their lowest point total of the year (65 points...16 below their season average of 81) and also held Ballard to 42 points. (They scored 70 against SC)

 

Holmes opponents combined are averaging 64 ppg.

 

Their average in their games against Holmes?

48 ppg and that average goes down considerably if you take away the first Bryan Station game.

 

Holmes has won 15 in a row because they are simply better than the teams they are playing. It has nothing to do with level of competition. (Which again is comical considering they've played 6 games against top 20 teams...Seneca, Franklin Co, Ballard, Bryan Station 2x, and Scott Co.)

 

Maxpreps has six teams in the top 25 with a harder schedule than Holmes.

I hate to break this to everyone but only one team wins the state title. So why worry about the rankings in the middle of january. I understand its a great way to gauge your team at this point in the season but it really means nothing at the end of the day. I am tired of hearing about whose schedule is weaker or stronger then who ever elses. Look these kids play the schedule they are given. I think it is more important to focus on the success of these kids instead of getting in an uproar about one school playing this team and another school playing this team.

 

Personally I have seen 7 of the top 10 teams, according to this pole, play this year. On any given night any of them could show up and beat the other, its that simple. At the end of the day 16 teams will make it to the state tournament and one will win it, only one. Personally that should be your goal I am not the type who says well we didnt win the state championship but hey on January 19th the Courier Journal had us rated in the top 25, man what a season. Who cares none of it matters right now, let the kids play and the coaches coach and whoever is left standing is the better team.

Rankings serve one purpose: to generate discussion. This is a public forum and rankings are a compelling topic. You may not care, but a lot of people do care. It's an interesting topic to discuss which team is better than another team at a certain point in time. Yes, in the greater sense of things, the only thing that matters is who is standing after the Sweet 16 Championship, but it still is fun to debate at this point who is the best. If we're not going to talk about topics like this, we may as well just have recaps of the games and move on.

 

My suggestion is that if you don't care about rankings, stay out of the threads and let others debate.

Once again I will state that I rarely post on this site as I do not see enough of the games in the state to form a solid opinion on the teams. I prefer to sit back and enjoy everyone else's discussions and get a laugh here and there. Rankings mean nothing!! Probably the most important day of the high school basketball year is the day the pairings are decided for the state tournament. While I still believe the Ky High School Sweet 16 is the greatest sporting event on earth there is a lot of luck involved in winning it. Every coach in the state that feels he has a chance to win the state championship dreams of drawing that 1st game on Wednesday afternoon regardless of the opponent. Go back and do some research on how many teams have played the last game of the 1st round and gone on to win the championship. Mason Co did it last year. Realize that it means winning 4 games in approx. 48 hours. How tough is that on 16-17-18 year old kids? Does anyone remember the 1980 tournament? Remember No. 1 Owensboro vs No. 2 Holmes in the semi-final game on Saturday morning @ 10:00am? Remember that Holmes played a triple overtime game on Friday night against a very good Ashland team. The game wasn't over until around 11:30 and the Holmes team never got back to their hotel and in bed until around 3:00am. The much anticipated matchup between Holmes and Owensboro never was a game. The Holmes players couldn't run, jump or do any of the things they displayed throughout the season. So just remember it doesn't make any difference where teams are ranked. Those who make it out of very tough regionals such as the 6th, 7th, 9th and 11th usually are will be ready for any takers but will need a little luck. That luck is helped tremendously on the day they set the pairings. Good luck to all teams and keep up the good posts.

Good quote, I agree, It takes a lot of luck to win the state championship. Any team can be beaten on any given night. A coach just hopes that his teams "given" night is not during in the first round of districts, in regionals or in the state tournament.

East Carter, Morgan Co. and West Carter are District games.

 

1 game with Lewis Co. was part of the EKC Shootout. Rowan Co. and Boyd Co. are Region games.

 

Anderson Co. is the Favorite to win the 8th.
