mcpapa
A little heavy on the Louisville teams at the top (gotta sell papers); not quite enough love for a team like Rowan County. Still, less than 9 "points" separating #1 from #20.

CAL4ALL
A little heavy on the Louisville teams at the top (gotta sell papers); not quite enough love for a team like Rowan County. Still, less than 9 "points" separating #1 from #20. Sigh...comments like "gotta sell papers" only increase the mistaken idea that Litkenhous uses local sportswriters/voters to rank the teams like a poll. Litkenhous ratings for sports (starting with college football) have been around since 1934. Although the C-J bought the rights and the formula has been tweaked over the years between seasons, the ratings are still computer-generated. Any argument should focus on the formula involving win-loss records, strength of schedule, score differential, etc. To say the formula favors Louisville teams may appear true one season and not the next. Rowan County may well be the top team in the state, but they don't fit the formula as well for this rating system at this point. The good news is they'll have the chance to prove it on the court. ColonelMike
Actually, this Litkenhous poll doesn't look all that bad to me. I might move a team up or down a spot or two, but overall, it looks pretty good. And I'm not generally a fan of computer polls...
bigblueinsanity
Can anyone post the 6th region? I can't get the girls link to work.
Athena
The formula should be tweaked again. The problem is no one at the Courier wants to take the time to put any thought into it. Rowan County certainly should be rated in the top 5 if not #1. They will as you say will have the opportunity to prove where they should be later in the season. I think overall the formula is o.k. it just needs some attention to make it a lot better.

Mr.Viking
Is Rowan's schedule correct......no games from the 13th to the 24th of Jan? Rowan County just finished a stretch of 5 games in 8 days. They were scheduled to play at Russell on the 15th but it was canceled. It has been re-scheduled for the 20th, and Rowan will play at Ashland on the 24th. lp1
Don't know too much about the top 20, but the 14th region rating is sure crazy!

You can make a case for everyone in the top 10 as being a top 5 squad... Rowan has definitely given a top 10 performance to date, though.
