Yeah I heard about that one too. Even the radio announcer who is from Carter County said there should have been a call made on that one.

I dont believe the game was officiated well at all.

 

Kevin Hendrickson should have been in the JV game. Joe Coldiron has not had a good year with the whistle. Roy Wright just goes with the flow.

 

I hope that these games are assigned before the year starts because Ashland/ Spring Valley had 2 of the better offiacials doing that game and Joe Billman was in Rowan doing the Rowan/ Tates Creek girls game. Bobby Hall was doing the East/ Russell game

I believe they are affiliated. I think that they are cousins in the same way that Taylor Webb and Jeremy are cousins. If I'm not mistaken David Rayburn and Joy Webb Rayburn are the parents of Aaron.

Reminds me a little of the 2003 Morgan Co. team....team was loaded in size and talent...physically the strongest basketball team in the 16th region I have witnessed over the last 20 years...some of the late 80's and early 90 Boyd Co. teams were physical specimens much like Morgan in '03, but the point is, that team had so much pressure to WIN BIG....I recall people doubting the Cougars abilities because we only won by 15 or 16 points...expectations are a good thing...................sometimes!

 

Of course, no expectations would yield a regional title a year later! Funny how the game of basketball works...and then when expectations went up in 2006, the Cougars got popped in district 1st round by West Carter....probably the biggest upset in 16th region over the last decade.

 

West Carter has proven themselves as a school to pull off upsets and play well in crunch time. Football team has been the same way...hats off to them as well.

 

As the story goes to me. That Morgan team was 26-2 and would win the region hand's down. Their only regular season loss was at home to a bunch of Elliott County Boy's who were mostly freshman then. Then West knocked them out in the first game of the district. Those young freshman went on to win the district and then play in the region championship with a 4 point loss to Russell. Those young freshman are now seniors and are smart young men. Smart enough to learn from the past and remember the lesson. Plus those freshman have now won 2 region titles and that Morgan team never won a region title. Point being that Morgan team was good and how good I don't know (I never saw them play as back then I didn't care anything about any 16th region team), but they didn't accomplish the things these kids have already accomplished and we aren't through yet.

The lesson to be learned, as I believe Nets was saying, is that no matter yoour record, you cannot take any game for granted. Anyone can lose to a less talented team by doing that. That being said, I believe this Elliott County team is too mentally disciplined to let that happen.

It don't matter how much experience you have or how many games you played you can still be beat by anyone! I am pretty sure that Morgan team had won a region title the year before and that would have made them back to back titles. NO ONE is above a loss, regardless of talent level, experience level and stuff. When "the boys" were in 8th grade Elliott beat Lewis by 30pt margins twice in reg. season. They drew them in first rnd of district and Lewis beat them by 20+. As someone said in another post on here...........
