January 5, 200917 yr Kentucky still doesn't get a single vote. They lost yesterday. First real team they played in a month and they lost. No reason to get a vote after a loss.
January 5, 200917 yr Nor do they deserve one. They lost yesterday. First real team they played in a month and they lost. No reason to get a vote after a loss. Just an observation. I didn't say they deserved anything.
January 5, 200917 yr Kentucky still doesn't get a single vote. I am sure they are better than some teams that are getting votes, but they did lose yesterday. I hope WVA does very well the rest of the year because that win could really help our positioning come March.
January 5, 200917 yr Just an observation. I didn't say they deserved anything. Valpo didn't get a vote either.
January 5, 200917 yr Notre Dame is as well! Both will be out of the top 25 soon. Atleast Notre Dame beat a top 10 team in Texas. Not many other teams can say that.
January 5, 200917 yr Author League is deep but the jury is still out on ND , Marquette, and Villanova. Until they play a tougher schedule, we don't know. SOS is 211, 159, and 154. All three won at least one tournament game last year and all lost pretty much nothing from their roster. I can see doubting Marquette with the loss of Crean...
January 5, 200917 yr Duke is now where they normally are. Overrated, grossly, they tend to dominate before March, and stumble down the stretch. Coach Krzyzewski has commented about it, and said he looks for this March to be different, we'll see. Very cool to see 3 ACC teams in the Top 5, and five in the Top 25....that's a better ration then the Big East. How do you figure? In the top 5, yes.
January 5, 200917 yr ESPN/USA Today Poll 1. Pittsburgh (30) 14-0 774 2. Duke 12-1 714 3. North Carolina (1) 13-1 707 4. Wake Forest 13-0 687 5. Connecticut 12-1 630 6. Oklahoma 13-1 593 7. Boston College 13-2 90 25. Tennessee 9-3 85 Only 9 Big East teams in the Top 25. I guess you're right Latch. Horribly overrated... Since you decided to get smart about it lets look at it again to disprove you again. They were said to have been the best conference of all time. They have managed to beat one team in the top 25 other than themselves. Who did Pitt beat out of conference? Are we counting Wisconsin or a lucky win against Gonzaga as UConn's big win? Syracuse beat Memphis, but that will be a common theme for this power conference. They also were beat at home by Cleveland St. or someone like that. GTown beat Memphis at home in OT. ND has a nice win against Texas, but lost to OSU in Indy and St. John's. Marquette sure looked good against UC and Dayton. Villanova got rolled by Texas, but they did get St Joe's at home. Louisville. Ha Ha. Should I start w/ WKU, UNLV, or the powerhouse that is Minnesota? WVU? Sure seems to me that this might not be the best conference of all time.

And the sad thing is any of the 9 would be the favorites in the SEC.
January 5, 200917 yr And the sad thing is any of the 9 would be the favorites in the SEC. Well since you mentioned that Louisville won by 3 at home against UK and WVU was beaten by them. Tennesse drubbed Marquette so maybe not. But this isn't about the SEC. GT's pointing out that the conference is great. While the conference is very strong and probably the strongest thats what they were built for. John C warned UC and UL to be careful of what they wished for playing in a league with that many top notch basketball programs. The fact is that this conference hasn't performed well out of conference against good teams. Do they even have a winning record against power conference teams? What is the conference record against top 25 teams not in the BE? To me that's overrated, not bad, just not that great. Especially for all of the hype we heard in 08.

January 6, 200917 yr Strongest this year by a mile. The strongest ever was the Big East in 1991 and it will likely never be equaled... They should be the strongest this year. That's like saying the SEC is the strongest football conference the last few years. They're going to be the strongest 3 out of every 5 years. There are 16 teams in the conference and if I'm not mistaken 8 are basketball only and the ones w/ football mostly are strong basketball programs historically. 2 months ago there was talk that they were the best ever. They're not, in fact they have been dissapointing and overrated.
