Copley is still an employee of the Pikeville and as a paid employee just do his job.

That is a pretty silly statement. A coach that was fired, hired by another school system as coach, should, instead of preparing his new team, spend time working out his old team? Doesnt make sense to me.

 

He was let go as coach, but is still employed as a teacher until the end of the school year.

I don't know anything about this situation at Pikeville. But why should Coach Copley spend time helping a program that has sent him packing?

 

Maybe the person who fired him should be down in the weight room working out the kids. This person is the one that is turning the back to the players.

 

Coach Copley I am sure is a little dispointed in being let go. I know the kids didn't have anything to do with it, but all he would be doing is getting himself involved and caught up.

Don't get me wrong: Coach Copley is a good coach, with a very very strong work ethic. I'm not sure why he was let go, but do know first hand that these kids didn't have anything to do with his termination.

 

I do know ..the talking to the kids.. that he has turned his back to them.

 

Which is sad..because a lot of them did look up to him as a teacher and coach.

A few of the boys are currently working out , but they need a head coach put into place so they can pull together as a team.

Copley has turned his back on these boys, even though they had nothing to do with his dismissal. Copley has a lot of growing up to do. Good Luck Greenup County.

WHat sounds worse is Pikeville folks wanting Coach Copley to work for nothing and help a football program that doesn't belong to him.

 

In that case maybe Dudley Hilton should drive to Pikeville to help them with off season conditioning until they find a coach.

Totally agree Ram...my question is why isn't one of his former assistants controling the weight program until a new coach is in place?

Besides the valid reasons everyone else has already stated, IMO there is also valid legal reasons why he shouldn't be in the weight room conducting off season drills.

 

Imagine, God forbid, if something bad happened to one of the kids during these workouts. Where would he be legally?

 

If anyone has hard feelings because nobody is conducting these workouts, it should be addressed to the administration, not at Coach Copley.

Sure they did, they didn't win enough. He was let go because of the record right? I am saying this in jest.

When Coach Sammons resigned he did not conduct weight training with Greenup's players (other than what was done in the weightlifting class that he teaches) and we didn't feel like he turned his back on our program. We do wish that someone would have stepped up in the system and filled in until Coach Copley gets here but there is absolutely no hard feelings toward Coach Sammons and we wish him the best and the kids understand what happened there. They do need leadership now in the worst way, we have hired a new strength coach and that is helping but not like it needs to be for the football team in general.

 

Liability is the main issue with anyone else going in and helping with the program which has been brought up in this post. It seems to me someone on the Pikeville staff needs to step up and get the job done, I feel your frustration, we have been there at GCHS but we didn't expect Sammons to do it so why should Copley at Pikeville, he was let go, I am sure he cares about those kids and it is probably a real tough situation for him as well with the Pikeville kids but he can't look back, he has his hands full with our team here at Greenup and we can't wait for him to get to work.:thumb:
