Estill County 100 Riverside Christian 12

Featured Replies

It really looks as though Estill did all that they could. They had 15 players scoring, which I am assuming included their whole bench. No player scored more than 12 points.

According to the box score, Estill scored 57 points after halftime. That's a little much considering they were already up by 40. I was expecting the box score to read more like 40-30-20-10 = 100. They scored more points in the fourth qtr up by 60 -- sorry guys that's just wrong.

So you want freshman who might not see anymore varsity minutes all year to hold the ball. Short of holding the ball nothing else could be done. They were playing zone defense in the fourth. We could ask them not to rebound on the offensive end also. Only solution is not to play this game in the future. With all due respect Riverside would be better suited in the Christian School Association.

For the millionth time, If people were not personally at a game, they cannot say a team was running up the score or that it was wrong!

You cannot tell your 11th through 15th player who gets into a game to just pull back and not score and/or to purposely turn the ball over. It's not fair to the players who work hard in practice, and it's not fair to the other team.

As long as a team up huge isn't pressing and such there is nothing wrong.

Couldn't agree more.

That's my thoughts exactly. Play hard, play a tight zone, no pressing and offensively run you plays to completion.

I agree. Riverside Christian has only around 30 enrollment, and really struggles from year to year with all their sports programs. And with so many small public schools having been conslidated in the past 20 to 30 years, it's very difficult for Riverside to make a schedule more suited for them.

In addition, many small private school in their area are no longer in existence that they once scheduled, such as Oakdale Christian and Hazel Green Academy. Your recommendation is probably the best solution for them, and other schools in the same category as well, such as Piarist in the 15th region.

Im assuming that Estill didnt hold a gun to Riversides head and force them to play. Maybe they need to drop their varsity schedule and play jv.

You have nothing to defend here. Of course the freshmen deserve to play and score. Again, all players scored and none of them more than 12. I bet that's a very rare thing. Good job, Estill Co.

It says it was the 82 food mart classic on khsaa and the other two games played in this classic are listed as being played at Estill co so I feel they had control over this and its shameful

Somebody has to play them.:thumb:

South Laurel's schedule has them playing Riverside Christian Feb. 14. Ouch!

I wasn't there and I have no idea about the Estill team or the Riverside team for that matter. I have the box score, the final score and the posts of those in attendance to formulate my opinion.

I understand Estill played zone in the 4th qtr, I understand they played reserves for most of the game. I guess even some of these reserves were freshmen from one of the posts. What I don't understand is if we are pulling back defensively and letting the lesser talented kids play most of the game, How the box score indicates that most of the points were scored in the 3rd and 4th qtrs.

Ooooooh... my goodness!!!

Why on earth would Coach Wright schedule Riverside Christian????

Their entire enrollment wouldn't fill up the first row of SL's auditorium.

I really think that it is a typo and that South Laurel is playing in the Riverside Prep Showcase on Feb. 14. Also scheduled to be there on Feb.14 is Harlan, Johnson Central, Belfry, Breathitt County, Williamsburg and June Buchanan. Those are not the only teams scheduled to be there. Riverside Christian has scheduled themselves to play Evangel Christian on Feb. 13th. in the Riverside Prep Showcase.

FWIW, Bill Curry used to say after Florida put it on UK 73-7 and 65-0 that the Gators had not run up the score but that the defense was supposed to stop the offense. I did not go for that when they were throwing bombs on first down late in the 4th. But as a long time bench warmer in high school I can see this happening with no bad faith. When the subs get out there it is your time to score and the defense has to stop the offense. I would be more curious, as another poster mentioned, if there was full court pressure the entire game. We have already seen balanced scoring so we know the starting five did not stay in the whole time. I would give Estill the benefit of the doubt on that and the previous games Riverside has played.
