January 1, 200917 yr We've seen a sharp decrease in gas prices, something that is unprescedent to what has happened in the past. I think that this is just a HUGE wake up call, that Obama really does stand for change and that Big Oil is scared(including OPEC), of how him being our new President may effect their pocket book both now and in the long hall. I believe that big oil realizes that they're no longer going to be treated as "pals" and this is in great part a reason for the dramatic decrease in prices. I feel as though they've realized that it's better that they regulate prices at a reasonable cost rather than have the US government step in, or even try to speed up the process as far as researching other fuel alternatives. What's your take on this matter? I'm totally laughing at my own thread, and think it's funny how many people could actually think this way, I could not sleep, and felt like being creative. If you believe any of the garbage I've spewed above, well I feel for you.
January 1, 200917 yr Not to get into a P&R discussion debate or anything but I think they will very soon (just after Jan. 20th) be on the rise again, some already have. I live in this country so I hope that he does well. I simply do not trust Obama at all with anything he says, that's all I will say on the matter. Being an American, I do hope that I am wrong about the man. As for "change", imo no change, politics as usual no matter what the party.
January 1, 200917 yr Our economy is entering a deep recession or a depression and the demand for gasoline has dropped. People are not optimistic about the future, so gasoline prices have plummeted. The only way Obama factors into the equation is that few people believe that the government, which has created the mess that we are in, is capable of solving the deepening crisis. Those who believe otherwise are the kind of people who would hire an arsonist to extinguish a fire.
January 1, 200917 yr Author Interesting takes so far, stay tuned for more from this guy. Perhaps I've got a hidden agenda.
January 1, 200917 yr Foreign policy decisions aside, the gov't has no control over the production of oil into gasoline. However, I do believe in economics and what you are seeing with lower gas prices is directly related to supply and demand. Because of the economy tanking, demand is not there so much; which leads to lower prices at the pump. I also am hoping for a change from politics as usual. As a country, and for me personally, doing things the way we have always done them because that is the way we have always done it... just ain't working. Though I am not an Obama supporter, I do support the President. I wish him well and hope he can accomplish some of the things he promised.
January 1, 200917 yr Zero to do with Obama, everything to do with the economy right now. Exactly. It has absolutely nothing to do with him. If he's going to get credit for this he better get blame for something that he has no effect on also.
January 1, 200917 yr Author Come on guys, you can't be serious, gas prices dropped almost imediately after or around the elections. Seems like big oil wants to play ball with Obama, rather than have him step in and officiate the game.:sssh:
January 1, 200917 yr Personally I don't think big oil gives two craps about Obama. I'm with RTS and IS... it's the recession/economy. Edited January 1, 200917 yr by Cameraman
January 1, 200917 yr Zero to do with Obama, everything to do with the economy right now. I agree completely.
January 1, 200917 yr I agree that it has nothing to do with Obama. Conservatives tend to think that the gas prices have gone down because the market is realizing that the pressure coming from Congress may actually cause a change in American policy. (off shore drilling) In reality though, the gas prices have dropped because of high energy prices and the weak economy are curbing the consumer demand. $3.50 and $4 a gallon for gas has just caused demand to hit a wall. It's simple economics. When demand decreases, prices do as well.
January 1, 200917 yr ONLY due to the recession is gas below 2.00. And actually gas spiked .25 cents today due to oil going up 4 dollars. Happy new year! When you got more and more people lining up for unemployment that isn't helping energy demand. Obama has had no thing to do with it thus far. Although with his new energy team it looks like fossil fuels aren't high up on the list as we expected. Obama won't throw his weight around until oil gets above $75 bucks which could happen in the summer.
January 1, 200917 yr Personally I don't think big oil gives two craps about Obama. I'm with RTS and IS... it's the recession/economy. They might not give a crap about him but they sure fear him. It was black Tuesday at Exxon-Mobile the day he got elected. Obama isn't going to let them take as many cookies as they want out of the jar anymore.
January 1, 200917 yr Those of you who believe that the government can lower prices by threatening oil companies crack me up. The sharp drop in gasoline prices should have debunked these silly conspiracy theories.
