The best dunk WOULD have been the one-handed put back that Elijah missed, he tried to dunk it left handed. Also, after Elijah was blocked/fouled trying to dunk on #23 for HC, after he hit both free throws he was walking down the court telling #23 that he wouldn't score the rest of the game. 23 didn't have another point.

Congrats to Holmes and their coaching staff. I have got to get out and watch this team.From what I have heard...they are a very exciting group to watch.

I hope to see what everyone is excited about when Holmes plays Largo, Md. at the Laurel County Hoop Fest on Jan. 24. I would like to see them play a top Kentucky team but this one will have to do because it's too long of a trip to Northern Kentucky.

You know I have always heard the expression live by the three, die by the three, but have never heard anything bad pertaining to a dunk!

Conner and Henderson Co both sat back in a 2-3 zone the whole game which was the reason for two low scoring games that were somewhat close. Holmes had a boatload of turnovers tonight. I bet they had ATLEAST 15. They are making way too many mental mistakes right now. Need to get back to the basics and start working on fundamentals. They threw the ball away a lot tonight.

 

BTW, Henderson came in to this game 11-1. They are a solid team.

Ricardo didn't score much because he hardly shot the ball.

Holmes has to be concerned with their press offense, because they really struggled against it at times.

Holmes started out the 4th quarter taking a lot of bad shots and rushing shots, which allowed Henderson to get a lot of fast break, quick, easy points in transition and cut the lead down to 8 with 5:47 left. They started running their offense right around the 4:00 minute mark looking for better shots to prevent this. Henley and Wimzie were both screaming from the bench to be patient and work for a good shot every time down right around that 4:00 minute mark. During that time I Believe Henderson scored less than 5 points after scoring probably 10 in the first 3 minutes. There was a reason for slowing the game down. They weren't "milking the clock", as you say. They had pushed their lead out to 15 right around the time they started slowing things down.

I thought you always said that playing zone against a Holmes would not be as effective as a man to man.

Sounds to me like a very good Holmes team beat a good Henderson County team by getting a 15 point lead and then holding on for a good win.

It wasn't effective. Holmes killed HC on the offensive glass. Only thing it did was forced Holmes to be more patient and work for better shots. They hit five 3's in the game probably on 8 or 9 attempts. That's not bad. Their zone led to three back door dunks by Housely, JJ, and Pittman.

They didn't "hold on" by any means. Holmes was up 55-38 with a minute to go in the game when both coaches pulled their starters. HC's coach pulled all of his starters and as soon as they went in, Henley did the same. HC's JV scored quick to close it to 55-40 and then Holmes player got fouled, missed both free throws, and a HC player got fouled and they made 2 free throws with less than 10 seconds left which gave you your final of 55-42.

Dunks are indeed exciting. But have you ever watched a team score 7 or 8 three pointers in a row. That will sure pump up the fans too.

True dunks are impressive and few can jam them home with authority and when they do they are exciting. But just anyone can't throw up a 3 pointer and there aren't that many who do it well. But, yes there are more ball players who are good at shooting 3 pointers than can forcefully jam home a dunk.

I would like to add that Pittman,Riley, and Ricardo can shoot the 3 ball at any time. They were lights out against Scott County and half of the other games. Nice to be back and see Eta is still showing some Bulldog love. I will be taking my lap top to every game I go to(which is almost all of them). I will report as much as possible.
