Every time I see a Holmes thread, I see a mention and often a count of the number of dunks that Holmes had. I thought I'd pop into this thread because I was just curious, have they revised the KHSAA rules somehow this season so that a dunk counts as more than 2 points? :confused:

 

Its still only 2 but it sure is nice to watch.

5 donks in a game, your team gets 2 bonus points...new KHSAA rule.

I personally like knowing how many dunks they have because that shows me that they are capable of dominating inside the paint. If they are in high school and as a team can get that many dunks then they should be controlling the paint and any basketball fan will tell you that if you can control the paint, you can bring home a championship. Not to mention the momentum swing 1 dunk can bring and the psychological effect it can have on the other team, I think that many dunks is quite impressive. It's one thing to do it in warmups(big deal) and another thing to do it in a game. And as Eta said

I hope I get a chance to watch Holmes play this year.

To the extent momentum, swagger, confidence, enthusiam and the crowd may enter into the mix of intangibles that impact a game, dunks may well be worth more than the 2points that go up on the scoreboard.

Pittman with another big game. I was told he had 4 dunks, and Holmes had 6 as a team.

ER, it was nice finally seeing you at the game. I had to dart out of there, but I'm sure we will talk at a game soon. As far as the number of dunks, my friend and I did count 9. You could tell that both Teams were spent for the most part, but when Holmes wanted to, they were able to do about whatever they wanted. The last 3 minutes the Dogs seem to be working on their ball movement and not really concerned about scoring. In fact, I would bet their last 10 points were probably all free throws.

Well said HS. I will also add this, a dunk gets the Fans excited for sure, but more, it gets the Team excited, and often deflates the other Team's spirit. In sports there are certain things that fire up the fans, and the Team. I would say a nice dunk is arguebly the most exciting thing during a basketball game, kinda like a HR in a baseball game, or a Kickoff/punt return in a football game.

I think Henley has done a good job of getting his guys to buy into good defense as a way to win games when the shots aren't falling. Those forty years include, by the way, three state runners-up and some pretty fair players named Green, Riley, Schloemer, Wimzie, Beal, Jennings, Pouncy, Hayes, Hill, Rice, Henderson, ..... and none of those teams played defense the way they have the last two years.

I have been a while. But, within the last week I watched a Corbin player score 18 points in the first and I don't remember him missing a three in the quarter. And the team was really feeding him the ball, he was definitely on a roll.

The defense wasn't that bad. Corbin was really moving the ball around the perimeter.
