Holmes 53 Conner 46

Featured Replies

Holmes looked extremely leg weary tonight and they ran into a very good team who basically outplayed them, out-hustled them and wanted it more. The Bulldogs pulled it out because of superior talent, but make no mistake, Conner took it to them and is a very good team. I suspect they would dominate in the mountains (that was just for you know who). Conner came in with a solid game plan to run their offense inside out and they knocked down the shots that were there. Holmes fell into the three-pointer trap a few times but just weren't hitting those shots with any consistency. I thought Ricardo Johnson came up big at the end and steadied them in the final 4 minutes.

This is a very good post Bulldog77. What people always seem to forget is that Jim Hicks is one heck of a coach and when he's got any talent watch out. He makes Conner tough when they don't have talent. I'd say Boone and Ryle have a heck of district ahead of them. Boone is the team to beat in the 33rd, but Conner has shown in the past they don't need the same talent to win that game.

As for Holmes. I wouldn't say they were out hustled or out worked but they just were out played at times. Conner was very patient in the offense and used the 2-3 zone to slow down the Holmes inside presence. I have a good feeling Holmes is going to see a bunch of Zone defense in the 9th region from here out. With that the case don't be surprise if Holmes does lose 1 game in the 9th region. Teams like Boone and NCC could give them some trouble, just as Conner did tonight.

But as stated they are STILL THE TEAM TO BEAT.

Couldn't agree more and I've said it before. Hicks is a heck of a coach.

Just got back from the game. Working on audio and pics as we speak. Give it up to Conner. Talk about hanging with Holmes. Game reminded me of the same game last year with Gallatin County and Holmes from what I heard about it.

Conner in the end got a bit tired. You can't deny that Holmes got frustrated. I don't have stats, but the turnovers were definately taking a toll. Especially on Jerimiah who ended up with a T.

As said above, this won;t be the only close game for the Bulldogs. This is a building tool for both coaches. Conner gets a bit of confidence that they can hang, but has to get over the top and Holmes that they need to concentrate a bit more.

Coaches from all over the area at the game tonight. Coach Stacey May from Williamstown, scouting Grant. Coach Ken Chevalier from Dixie, some of the St. Henry crowd.

Lots of scouting going on.

Is Holmes supposed to steamroll everyone by 20+? Give me a break. Great teams find ways to win even on bad nights. Give Conner credit for battling and making this one close. At the end of the night the only stat that matters is the W.

Im sure Eta will give us the breakdown. I didnt get any texts from him tonight so I am guessing there weren't many dunks if any at all.

Eta wasn't able to attend, nor was I. Was able to get some updates later in the game though. It sounds like the game started with some drama. Again, I wasn't there, so maybe someone who was, can shed some light. During warm-ups Pittman was T'ed up for what the refs called a dunk. From the person who was there: He did not dunk that basketball, he went up with two hands and droped the ball in the hoop. 2-0 Conner, and the ball to start the game. I guess it wasn't long after that, Pittman picked up two more fouls. This is about all I know honestly, other than Ricado Johnson took over down the stretch, including two big 3's.

Props to Conner for playing so hard, my friend said they played alot harder than Holmes.

If you pick up a T before the tip, that does count as a personal doesn't it?

Pittman's technical was legit. He went above the rim and threw it down with one hand with some authority.

Conner always plays Holmes tough and makes them earn it. It was no different tonight. As said earlier, they played great defense, rebounded well and they were patient on offense.

Yes and Coach Henley was then required to sit the entire night ie no use of the coach's box.

Listen guys, Holmes is by far the best team in the 9th region and the #1 team in the state. This games only proves that Holmes can still win when they play a horrible game. Great teams can get these types of wins when they have an off night.

Congrats to Holmes...a win is a win.

Easy, you might be eating those words come March.

I've had crow before. Go Lions!

I agree, The t was legit. Thats just stupid taking a chance before a game like that.

Pittman's technical was legit. He went above the rim and threw it down with one hand with some authority.

Does anyone know why they even have this rule? Ive always thought it was the stupidest rule Ive ever heard of.

I'll take your word for it.:thumb: BTW...Does anyone know who won the night cap? I believe that's who Holmes will face tomorrow.

Henderson County beat Bullitt East. Holmes plays Henderson Co. tomorrow night at 8 pm

This shows that Holmes isn't as clearly cemented as the #1 team as previously thought. Conner played a great game in this one.

Was you at the game.

Holmes was really flat, and Conner brought it from the tip. Holmes is still a young team and I think it showed. I think they thought Conner was going to lay down, but Conner left it on the floor. One positive I took from the game was Arnolds play. I like how he attacked the rim and didn't settle for jumpers. Good teams find a way to win even when they shouldn't. As for the EC will beat Holmes comment be careful what you wish for because you might just get it. If they do meet in March Holmes will dunk the small EC team right back to Sandy Hook. Oh yeah before I forget did you see the two hand double pump dunk by Pittman that got the and one.
