Holmes 53 Conner 46

Featured Replies

These type of games occur during the course of a season at EVERY level of basketball. I would not be surprised at all to see Holmes roll Conner by 20+ in the rematch. It is kinda ironic about the game starting with the T and Conner ball, then Holmes playing their worst game of the year. Conner just had that happen to them vs. Ryle and played their worst game of the year and Ryle won by 25+. And, just like in this rematch, don't expect to see similar results when Ryle and Conner get together again. Always remember to judge teams by their body of work over the course of a season, not by a single game and never use comparative scores. Holmes is the #1 team in KY right now IMHO and hats off to Conner for playing a very good game. But, the W, not the margin of victory, is all that will be remembered in the long run. Congrats to Holmes on winning on an off night.

Well said SS.

The reason I asked was because in the 4th Holmes showed the reason why the are one of the top teams in the state and you had to be there to truely understand how the game went. I know, that you know, the score does not always tell the whole story. Nothing was going these kids way yesterday they couldn't buy a shot. They could of easily gave up, but they choose to scrap it out. They showed gritt and heart. Ricardo is a leader he willed them to a win. I think this win goes directly to Henley. He knows his team will have off shooting nights, but he has them playing defense night in and night out. There defense is becoming the staple of this team.

FYI - I said in the update thread that Holmes will come out in the 4th and win the game. Go find that post if you'd like.

Kudos - a 7-point win over Conner. Best of luck this season :thumb:

Not sure if that's a sarcastic comment or not, but how much do you know about Conner? They are a solid team and quite honestly would run through the 16th and win every game by 20+.

I don't know about the end comment.

Might be a stretch, but they would def. be competitive and win most of their games.

I'd guarantee they wouldn't beat Elliott county by 20+.

Besides, it wasn't sarcastic. This was a nice win by the state's #1 team over a great opponent.

I'll have to agree with ya on that one. I'd say by no more than 10.:D

I'd be willing to bet Henley doesn't care about the rankings right now, but does care about preparing his team for tournament time. Having said that, Holmes could've sat back in a zone with Pittman in the middle and had an easier time with Connor. Connor isn't the type of team that's going to shoot the lights out and the Holmes' guards are quick enough to defend out top on a zone. By playing a m2m, it'll help Holmes down the road.

Also, Hicks had a great game plan. His team played great m2m team defense. He's not only a top coach in the 9th, but I'd even submit he's one of the top coachs in the state.

Actually, Conner shot the three fairly well last night, and it seemed to me that their 3 point shooting kept them in this game.

I'd guarantee they wouldn't beat Elliott county by 20+.

Stop bashing Holmes when you were not even at the game. Have you seen Conner or Holmes play this year? Coach Hicks is the best coach in the 9th, IMO. From what I heard Conner played great half court defense and had Holmes a bit frustrated. From the way the Elliot County scores look it doesn't look like they even believe in defense. I can not comment on an Elliot/Holmes matchup, because I have not seen Elliot play this year. However, I am sure I can take your word for it, since you have seen Holmes play so much it seems like.

Elliott county can play run and gun or they can play slow and play very good defense when they need to. In three games at the beach ball class against very good teams they have given up 192 points for a 64 point average. Not bad defense again that quality competitionl

Coach Hicks is a very good coach. I watched him several years when he was at Corbin and it's amazing what he can do with a bunch of boys.

Coach Hicks is in the 11th region, not the 9th

No, Coach Hicks is at Conner in the NINTH Region.

If you would like to watch Elliott play against a team with as much athleticism as any in Kentucky, click here:

I'm not bashing Holmes at all. I said "This was a nice win by the state's #1 team over a great opponent."

You could always look at it as the U.S. vs Canada and just enjoy it.;)
