I would change the format slightly in the 2 day event.

If you want the football finals to be an event it has to be a 2, 2, and 2 format. BG needs to demand it, otherwise, people are going to zip in, and zip out.

 

3 and 3 is way too much football in a short period of time.

 

Finally, I don't want to hear any garbage about the supers not wanting to miss another day of school. If that is the case they need to trim back all the days they allow both the boys and the girls to miss for both the Sweet 16 and the All A.

 

I agree Guru I think when it comes to Basketball nothing seems to matter. 2 games in one day is fair enough. Bell Co could not even enjoy the moment it was just a rush to get off the field.

The time between the games isn't determined by the stadium is it? I don't think you can blame PJCS for that, or for security doing their job, which was to clear the field for the next game.

 

The 2X2X2 would be better for that purpose no matter where it's played.

For the media/photographers/etc that have to be there all day, it's brutal, especially in inclement weather.

 

As for Louisville not caring....I'm not sure what you mean by that. What is it that Bowling Green could do to ensure that fans feel welcome? I have further thoughts on this, but I'm not sure what you mean so I'll wait to find out.

I am looking forward to (hopefully) being there next year. My son is going to Western and it will give us a chance to go down early to visit. Very nice football facilities, but I think in/out and parking will be a problem for the larger schools. This makes the think that the smaller schools on one day and the three larger on day two (as suggested above) would be a mistake.

 

As a tailgating group, I hope they have porta potties, like they do at Papa Johns. I would also like to see a lot of garbage cans. We had to search some out so we wouldn't leave a mess behind.

 

One last thing, it would be nice to have a plan in place for handicapped people. We bring two handicapped people with us. I called Papa Johns to see if a golf cart, or something would be available to help get them to their seats (neither can walk very far), and there was none (although I saw unmanned golf carts). It was very taxing for them to make it from the car, up the ramp and then up to their seats (but thank goodness for the elevator!).

 

We will miss Papa Johns....lots of great memories there. Hopefully we will create new ones at Bowling Green!

Is the parking that bad? Just think if it would have been formatted that way this year, we would have has Beechwood and NCC playing back to back on Friday, and HHS and SK back to back on Saturday. That would have been nice.

In Louisville local establishments weren't prepared for the crowd and I've ran into several restaurants that just seemed put out by having a crowd. IMO

That horse has had four funerals, three full masses and about six burials. It is dead. It won't be resurrected unless there is a major change in superintendent leadership. Put the saddle in a museum and enjoy the view.

 

As for WKU, I think you will see a much more hospitable host. That area across the stadium could easily be an area where fans who have all day tickets could be admitted get warm, maybe have vendors, etc. For those who only come for one game, it doesn't matter anyway.

 

As for warm-up time, I kind of watched that one this year as I was getting colder and colder. Every team, including Bell County, got the 45 minutes that was prescribed by the instructions, and originally recommended by all the coaches. Teams that need more than that to warm up are not efficient enough to be in the state finals. My look at what other states do show that 45 minutes is incredibly longer than most schools get on the competition field, and that four hours in between is much, much longer.

 

So it all depends on what your purpose is for more time.

 

I for one have always agreed with a schedule that puts the biggest crowds in teh night game slots. Facts are facts and those teams with bigger enrollments (and in most cases more fans), should get the preferred slots. Just a fact of life.

 

But what the heck do I know, except how to stir up LN.

I agree! Louisville PJ security team were not hospitable to say the least...time on the field after the game with your son is priceless... win or lose.

 

Move the games to Thanksgiving weekend... have a game on Thursday, 2 on Friday and 3 on Saturday. That way the sup's cannot complain about the student body skipping school and the fans can deep fry the 'birds tailgating. Life does not get better than that...

I understand what the intent of the thread is.

 

What I don't understand is the animosity toward PJCS, or Louisville in general.

As to the establishments you speak of, I assume you mean restaurants. On any given Friday or Saturday night, there will be a wait, generally at least 30-45 minutes average at just about any restaurant I've ever been to in Louisville. We Louisvillians eat out more per capita, than just about anywhere. :lol:

 

As to the establishments being aware, there are avenues that can be used to alert establishments of the upcoming event that the KHSAA may not have realized or utilized. Specifically, when the groups/organizations can work with the CVB to alert establishments of the activities, anticipated attendence, etc. As well, the finals (except this year) usually coincided with a major annual convention in Louisville, which also impacted the "load" on attractions and restaurants and hotels.

 

It sounds like the finals are a heralded event in BG, and if so, then I expect they'll be rolling out the red carpet.

We haven't had much luck with museums so I will keep beating this horse.

 

All we need are a couple of changes in the Super leadership, the next KHSAA Commish, theguru, and maybe a witchdoctor or two and then who knows.

 

At the end of the day I am right on target with 2, 2, and 2 so I will never put this horse out to pasture.

I think the best thing about having the finals in Bowling Green will be that everybody in town will know they are hosting the state finals and make a big deal out of it.

 

In Louisville I think most folks drive by and wonder why the lights are on at Papa John's.

And you do it well my friend. I continue to feel like the Ru does. The Supers come across rather hypocritically when they permit the Sweet 16 to occur over several school days (doesn't the All A Classic also occur during school days?), yet they argue against the football championships being spread out over 3 days because they don't want the students and coaches to miss another day of school. It's kind of like being opposed to racinos coming to Kentucky when you voted in support of the lottery. Just one of those inconsistent positions that makes people shake their head.

Why not be able to buy a ticket for the session, not just one game? Would the total attendance be that much different. The number of fans in the stands would be greater.
