Got My Grades For This Semester...Decent But Still Disappointing To Me

Featured Replies

I checked my Norse Express account earlier today and saw where I had two B's and two C's and while it is passing, I am disappointed in the grades. I wanted to bring my overall GPA up to or above a 2.5 but with this performance of not even a 2.5 for the semester, I am close to where my previous GPA was.

(Side note: I may look like my GPA for the semester is a 2,5 with the grades I got but one of the C's was in a 4 credit hour course so that knocked my semester GPA down slightly.)

The only good things that I can take out of this semester was that it was my first full semester of taking courses in my new major of Journalism and learned some things that I will need for future classes and most importantly, since you must have at least a C in your degree required courses, I am covered on that aspect.

So to make a long story short, I wanted to ask those of you who are either currently in college or those who have gone before, what makes you feel like you've had a good each semester?

Me - actually achieving the goals that I set for myself anf if I didn't meet them, knowing that I tried my best and studied my tail off would still suffice.

A good semester is when you're not put on probation, or told you can't come back...

Good point...I should have asked what is a disappointing semester to everyone?

I was a very average (at best) student in high school, as sports was by and large all I cared about. In college, I got far more serious (had to use my own money to pay for it) and finished with a 3.98 GPA. I had only one "B" in 4 years, given during a Phys Ed class because I got into a fight during a basketball game. But the pressure I put on myself the last year or two of school - because I was intent on making Summa Cum Laude - was too much and almost not worth it. Whether I got a 3.98 or 2.98, my employer would still have hired me. Your goal - like most things in life - should be to make certain that you gave your best effort and got the best grade that was attainable for you at that time. If that's a "C", then so be it and be proud of it! But if it's a "C" because you left something on the table, put a plan in place now to fix it and improve upon it the next semester.

Hang in there Statman. Way back when I started college I smoked my first semester with a 4.0 and then the 2nd semester decided I should go fishing on nice spring days and hang out at parties til the wee hours of the morning on weeknights. I got a 2.3 the 2nd semester and it brought my GPA down big time. It took me 3 yrs to get my GPA up to 3.25 which is what I graduated with. It will take time but if you consistently achieve a higher GPA than 2.5 you will be fine.

My recommendation is when the warm weather hits save the fishing for the weekends and not during class time and go to bed at 11pm no later every night of the week. LOL

:laugh:That certainly qualifies.

I'd have to second this statement.

I told my youngest son, don't lose your KEYS money. I think you lose it if you are below a 2.5. Actually my son did great. He finished this semester with a 3.8.:thumb:

KEES may swith to a need basis.

Hopefully not . It has been a big help. My youngest is graduating in May 09 so I should be ok.

A good semester for me was, passing all my classes with at least a C, had a good time, made some new friends, had some good laughs. In the end college is just as much about the experience as it is what you learn. Most employers don't care what your GPA is or in some cases even what your degree was in, just that you have your degree. I wouldnt sweat GPA unless it affects a scholarship!

Part of my track and field scholarship depended on my GPA to be above a 3.0. I maintained it until I transferred.

My best GPA was my first year of college, and the last when I went back to finish with a wife and infant baby son.

You can do it, ... just realize that the rewards of keeping it up and getting that college education will pay huge dividends for years to come! :thumb:

I have one graduating in May 09 also so I sure hope they dont mess with KEES money. My oldest son is graduating from EKU next semester and that money has sure come in handy. He got it all 4 years and I was hoping the same for my 2cd son. He has over a 4.0(never made a B) due to weighted AP classes.:thumb:
