Why do they? They are always a one sided game!

Depends on whether the losing record is their district record or their overall record. Many schools play tougher teams (outside of their district) for many reasons, geography, tradition, etc.

This question keeps coming up in regards to football...why? I can't think of another sport in KY (although I could be wrong) that does not let every team in the playoffs regardless of record. At least football restricts it some.

A four seed played in the 6A championship game because they earned the right to be there while all of the 1's, 2's and 3's were at home. Should the 3's and 4's have been eliminated?

You are correct. Football is the ONLY team sport in KY that doesn't let everyone in the postseason.

No. And not only should teams with losing records not make the playoffs, there should be a quasi Harbin system in place to ensure that teams cannot load up on a bunch of weak, out of district competition. Kentucky playoffs are a joke with nearly every team in the state in playoffs. Playoff eligibility needs to be earned not just given away.

You mean like it is in Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track, Volleyball, and Wrestling?

What if you are a decent team and just play way over your head, but you have the makings to go 2 or 3 games deep in your respected classes playoffs.

Shorten the season and put everyone in the District tournament. Otherwise, putting teams in the playoffs with losing records is a mockery of the game

Maybe a team is a slow starter or lost some very close games. Regardless of their record, if they fall into the # that goes to the playoffs - Good luck !

Does that statement apply to all sports?

Which of the 12 teams at Papa John's last weekend didn't deserve to be there? Which of them entered the postseason with a losing record? Which of those teams are "jokes" that "load(ed) up on a bunch of weak, out of district competition"?

If those questions can be answered with anything besides "none of them", then the Kentucky system is flawed. But I think you will always find that no matter how many teams are involved, the system will play out for the best teams.

No but with 6 classes even winless teams make the playoffs.

And some teams with wins don't make the playoffs.

The problem is that football is the ONLY team sport in KY where some teams do not make the playoffs. Would you be willing to limit the number of teams in the playoffs for all sports?
