Shorten the season to 9 games and let everybody into the playoffs.

It works in Indiana. It would work in Kentucky.

ALL footbal teams should meke the playoffs. Why should football be any different than other sports?

And some teams with wins don't make the playoffs.

The problem is that football is the ONLY team sport in KY where some teams do not make the playoffs. Would you be willing to limit the number of teams in the playoffs for all sports?

Probably not but just about every other sport can be played on back to back days or with a day of rest in between games. The same is not true with football. So how would you manage a playoff system with all the extra teams?

Not only does every basketball and baseball team get in post season play but the runner-up (loser) of the district is permitted to keep playing.

All the extra teams? Only 31 teams in Kentucky didn't make the playoffs this season. If you put everyone in, you have an extra week of playoffs (just like Indiana). I would imagine the classes might be adjusted evenly if the KHSAA went to this plan. It really wouldn't be that difficult to "manage" this system.

That's not the point and wasn't the issue. The issue was that 0 win or teams with losing records are making the playoffs in every other sport except football. This happens in EVERY sport in Kentucky.

We talk about sports overlapping, but if we paired down the playoffs in every sport, that would help. But let's be honest, basketball will never be touched. However, if you take out the district tourneys you knock 1 week off the hoops season. Let every team in Kentucky into the football playoffs and you only extend the season by 1 week.

We might as well let all the football teams in as well.

Excellent point!!! Let's just take the top 2 teams from each district to the region without a district tourney and basketball can start 1 week later. :thumb:

You cant just adjust classes evenly by number of teams if you base the classifications on enrollment.

Why can't the largest 37 schools be 6A, next 37 be 5A, and on down the line?

It's not the point or the issue of the thread but you quoted me and raised the issue. To the original point, IMO winless teams or teams with losing records shouldn't make the playoffs. My two years of starting in HS we won 2 games total(yes we were awful), we did not deserve or have any business in the playoffs.

If T & X are for example the 1 & 2 big schools in terms of enrollment then how is the descrepency to the 37th team in number of boys.

What about the difference in the number of boys in the small or A classification from the largest to smallest.

I don't know these answers but I don't think it can be as simple as that but I may be wrong.

There is no playoff system that is perfect and every playoff has it's problems, but Kentucky's system is better than Ohio's were a computer program picks who is in or out.

District play is the way to go where some games matter. If we went with wins/losts some teams like Highlands,CCH,Beechwood etc would find it hard schedule games.

It is not perfect but kept District play

I like KY's football system.

Making a certain number of wins a requirement (other than the number of district wins you need to qualify) is a folly we don't want to try. It incentivizes teams to under-schedule...

Shouldn't all sports be treated the same? Should teams with losing records or 0 wins in the other sports continue to be allowed to make the playoffs?

If you're only going to eliminate about 30 teams in the state from making the playoffs, you might as well go ahead and let them all in and do what Indiana does.
