Goodness sakes. I'm glad Mrs. King got her Christmas shopping on line done today so I could read some of this babble. I heard the comments by both coaches. Frankly I never heard anything untoward from either bench.

 

What was upsetting was the technical foul received by Metz in the game after he taunted a kid who swatted his layup out of bounds on the play before. Metz scored on the inbounds on a layup and had some profane taunt that got him rang up. There's no need for that. If a kid the caliber of Metz can't score on a freshman, well, not much else to say about that. He's better than that.

 

As for the end of the game and the substituting of players by Bath, there's no doubt he had the starters in right up to the end. In fact Metz was in even after the rest left with just a few seconds to play because he went to the foul line.

 

Ah, that Hicks hasn't changed much since I saw him last year at his place when Rose Hill beat them to go to the All A in Richmond. Bless his heart, he gripes every trip. Funny that the officials the game after said how they were glad they didn't have him today.:lol:

 

I'd like to say this, I was more than impressed with the folks out there in Vanceburg, they put on a great day of basketball. Not sure if this was largely done by Coach Hampton, Coach Gary Kidwell or others, but Kudos to you all. Well done.:thumb:

There were no hard fouls by Russell players in the fourth quarter of the game. No cheap shots or trash talking.

The game is over. Move on.

The Devils have a huge district seed game vs Raceland coming up on Thursday.

I agree with Nets, there were no hard fouls commited by the Russell players. I also agree with the game is over and we all just need to move on and look forward to the rest of the upcoming basketball season.

Sr. Zak Metz led Bath with 19 and Jr. Taylor Maze chipped in 17.

 

Russell:

Jr. Tanner Alexander and eighth-grader Kyle Scaggs led the Devils in scoring with 17 pts. each.

I have a feeling that the tide will turn and you'll see a time in the future when Bath faces Kidwell and there will be a chance for the circumstances to be reversed.

If not this year, the Devils are loaded with juniors that may circle next year's game on the schedule. Jim Bob has had it out for Russell since his days at Greenup when he called a TO with :03 to play and the game in hand, for the sole purpose of celebrating with the fans and taunting the Devils.

All good coaches always use game situations for teaching purposes. I was there and they were working on their delay game. Bath only scored 1 point in the final 6 minutes. It was ok when Russell beat Bath by about 40 points a couple of years ago. Coach Hicks has turned our program around and in my book he has a lot of class.

Your book hasn't been read by many, he's not too classy in "most folks book". I'll reiterate what I said in another thread, we're all tickled to death that you have him.:thumb:

All of us sit on here and talk about what coach we don't like and so on and so forth, but do we honestly think these people care??? I know I wouldn't, this basketball season is going to be a tremendous year for the 16th region especially when we have a top 5 team in the state. In that game there was mistakes made by both sides that probably shouldn't have been, but who really cares??? It just amazes me that some people actually think that Bath County was running up the score or something, Russell ended the game 13-1 in the last 6 minutes to go...Bath county only won by 15.....15!!! Come on people, if we were going to talk about any team around here running the score up on someone then it would be Elliott...they have beat 16th region teams by 50+ and 40+. But by no means am I saying they mean to run the score up, they are very very talented and probably can't help it that they play in a weak region. But Coach Hicks must be a popular person because it seems to me that like him or love him...a lot of people are talking about him so he must be doing something right.

Time will probably come in the next season or two, Bath doesn't have a lot coming up. If Hicks stays there after this season. If he did leave his starters in, and evidently he did, I agree, it's classless.

Dont look for Kidwell to return the favor. His team led a girls game last year 40-0 at the half and his team ended up winning by 12.
