I think SC may be the greatest team ever assembled in the state of KY. Not only do they have talent, but they seem to play well together. Good passing team. Run their plays and pass well. Euton, Jackson, Guyn have all improved from last year.

 

Way too early to say this. The ingredients are there presumably but Hicks has his work cut out for him to get this group of players playing like a TEAM.

 

Scott County is very unselfish. All these boys love playing together and are team first. This is a very close team. If Scott County gets beat it wont be because they are not team players.

I suspect that a 6' 11" Baylor recruit, a couple of ticky-tack fouls early in the first half and a team with at least 7 other DI recruits might have that effect on any player in the state of Kentucky. Phares played a great game for the time he was able to stay on the floor.

Was just stating my OPINION that if you put a good big man on Phares, he will struggle some. As SpeedyGonzales said, he was 1 for 9 from the field and was in early foul trouble because he was trying to guard a type of player he wasn't accustomed to which led to the fouls. Phares should dominate KY competition but when they play a team with a good big man, you'll see his numbers go down like last night.

Watched the Scott County team tonight. They should have won it, but the way things go sometimes.

 

This may be the only loss Scott County has all year.

Only real negative I saw, was Jacksons play. Although he has improved and is very good, he seems to want to dominate the ball. This happened last year at Rose Hill, which is understandable considering it was him and Euton. But with all this other talent, they have got to get the ball to Phares and Euton more down low.

 

Personally, I am not a SC fan, but you got to admire what this team will be.

What game did you watch? The one I watched, SC couldn't beat the pressure that Duncanville applied when they doubled Jackson and denied him the ball. So, perhaps the rest of the team should step up their ability to handle pressure, cause Chad was the only one who could.

 

You know what's funny, we can gripe, complain, whine and moan about this SC team and some can claim foul on how they all ended up together out there, and we can all have our own version of "homegrown" when the fact is that few if any teams are truly "homegrown" in this state. And if posters could take off their homer glasses for their own teams or quit pushing the agendas of their own kids, we could step back and realize the the gap between SC and the rest is sizeable. Not to say that SC can't be beaten, because they can and likely will somewhere down the road here in KY, I think it's fairly clear that they are heads and shoulders above the next tier of teams here in the commonwealth.

I did not realize Phares struggled so much in this game. He was 1 for 9 from the field and didn't reach double figures. He was in early foul trouble trying to defend players he's not accustomed to having to guard at his own height. He should shake this once he gets back to playing Kentucky teams.

I agree. I know he was in foul trouble most of the game, but he struggled when he was in the game. Late in regulation he fumbled at least two good passes directly underneath the basket, both of which should have been easy baskets and could have held Duncanville at bay, with no OT to worry about. And he had a few shots blocked...which is understandable of course with a team that big.

He's still a great player though. It was just one of those nights.

Dakotah Euton- 5-13 on the night, 3-8 from 3 point line.

 

Chad Jackson- Jackson got to the line 18 times. 15 of his 23 points were from the charity stripe.

 

Ge'lawn Guyn- Guyn scored 17 points on 6-11 shooting.

 

For Duncanville, it seemed that the key to their comeback was attacking the rim. That seems to be a weak spot for SC. When Duncanville quit settling for jumpers and drove to the baskets, SC had trouble defending them.

So what does that say about Scott County? Phares has a bad game and they still should have beat a top 10 team in the nation. No team in the state of KY has close to what Duncanville had inside, except Scott County.:thumb:

Don't say the rest of the team didn't step up. The press break SC had last night is the same one they have had for years. They trust that their point guard can get open on his own against a double team. IMO it is an awful press break. But it is what it is.

All I'm saying is that he didn't "dominate" the ball for no reason. The rest of the team struggled with the pressure. It is what it is. I can't disagree with the questionable choice of the press breaker. But Duncanville put their 2 guards on him in hard denial and I don't care who you are when you have 2 athletes of that caliber on you, it's tough to shed them in 5 seconds. And SC had no other options, seems to me that left a 4 on 3 and SC still turned it over. Call it what you like.

Watched it on tv thought it was a classic line by Jeff Sheppard when he said Billy Hicks has put together a great team here.Congrats CARDS.

And after watching them play at the Scrimmage last week in Inez. I seriously think

Elliott County can play with any team in the state and nation.

Without Phares last week, it's a good thing they didn't play EC, cause EC would have won hands down. With Phare's it would be a very exciting game.

 

That is a little far fetched in my opinion.

Not in the nation, but I strongly believe they can play with anybody in the state this year. :thumb:
