Why would you make a post like this and not mention Bryan Station. Obviously they should be considered considering they beat Holmes.

It sounds like Duncanville is loaded with talent, but you'll have a hard time convincing me that Oak Hill Academy is not the #1 HS team in the year every year.

Oak Hill beat Duncanville by 12 on Friday night.

 

In my opinion, the best team at Marshall County this weekend was Findlay Prep from near Las Vegas. They dismantled Montverde Academy from Florida in the final game.

I was pretty surpised to see Scott Co. lose this game down the stretch. They outplayed Duncanville until the last 3 or 4 minutes of the ball game. It was kind of odd that Duncanville didn't get going until 2 of their starters fouled out. Anyways this team should have a great year. I thought Jackson and Guyn was both much better players than Dowell who is going to Oklahoma St.

Franklin and Washburn were the players that brought Duncanville back ... Franklin played very hard and unselfishly and Washburn ruled the inside in the latter stages of the game.

 

I'm told that one of the recruiting gurus watching the game made a comment to the effect that the game turned once Duncanville got the players on the floor that were willing to play hard.

I think that there's a marked gap between SC and the next 3 or 4 teams. I do think there are several who not only can "compete" but can beat SC as I have stated 3 times now. I think that the showing against Duncanville was solid. Nothing that I watched changed my opinion. However, I totally agree that there are teams that can beat SC.

SC reminds me a bit of the 1979 Lafayette team. Deep and talented, although I think a few more impact transfers. Dirk Minnifield, Junior Johnson (impact transfer) and Kenny Minnifield probably handled the ball a little better than SC guards as a whole. Lafayette was scary good in '79 as Jock Sutherland assembled a very good team. We will see if SC ends up as good as Jock's team, but for now I would have to say that this SC team is not as good. It will take a very well played game by an opponent to beat them.

8 points for Phares? I just watched the game and looks like if you put a good big man on him he'll struggle. Nice showing for SC but in the end Duncanville was the better team and they showed why they're #1 in the nation.

I was thinking the exact same thing. The 6'11" kid was too much for him.

I agree that there are teams who can compete with and beat SC, but the question is will they? Holmes, Jtown, Manual, GRC and Elliot Co IMO are all talented enough to knock off the Cards. Each presents strengths that could give SC problems. Holmes, GRC, and J'town all have size and are athletic enough to run with SC. Manual and Elliot Co both have sharp shooters that can light up the scoreboard.

 

IMO though, it's going to take a good shooting team to beat SC that also has a few tall players that can play both inside and out like Euton and Phares. We'll know a lot more about SC over the next week and a half. They play Tates Creek Tues, Holmes Sun, Dunbar Tues, and then GRC Thurs.
