This was the main reason I was very glad to see the Reds move him. You offer him arbitration, and there is a very real chance he takes it because that $100 million deal isn't out there. Jockety hit one out of the park with the move and all it avoided...

I think it is interesting that so many people thought Ryan Howard was the MVP, yet Dunn doesn't garner much interest on the open market. They're very similar players. The biggest difference is that Howard plays on a much better team and is surrounded by talent.

 

Howard smoked Dunn statistically in 08. What I like to look at in this case is how well they hit LHers. Dunn .190. Howard .224

I'll try to find it, but I don't think there was a drop-off with Dunn. But, more importantly, he did not give the boost that they expected to get from him to carry them to a Division title.
