Oklahoma jumps Texas in BCS rankings.

Featured Replies

Makes no sense. Texas wins by 40 this week, their only lost was a lucky play by Tech in the final seconds, and they beat Oklahoma head to head.

One thing I think we all can agree with....this was the very worst outcome for the BCS supporters. I don't know if a playoff system would fix the problems either. I just don't see how a team could beat a team, and have them go to the championship game over them.

Gators will play Texas.....in another bowl game.

I am with you, I don't see Florida beating Bama.

Agreed. Texas has one loss. Oklahoma has one loss, but their loss was to Texas. How can they place the Sooners in front of the Horns???

Playoffs please, and soon!

The real screwy thing about this system is, todays rankings are not deciding the National Championship. All of this controversy was only for the Big 12 Championship Game!

What if Mizzou shocks Oklahoma?

What if Bama loses a close game, do they get a rematch?

How is the best one loss team decided if OU loses and Bama loses?

The BCS is crazy, but we will not get a new system anytime soon. It would be funny, however, if the BCS' undoing comes from the Big 12 Championship Game decision and not a National Championship Game decision.

I'm not sure why the BCS is taking a beating over the Big 12 South Division champion. The beating belongs to the Big 12. It's their conference, their conference tie-breaking scenerios, that put the BCS formula into play. If I'm the Big 12 commish, I think it's time to explain how and why the BCS rankings were put into play for a THREE way tie-breaker. I'll bet it has something with the school President's and AD's voting for it. :thumb:

As for the Texas beat Oklahoma argument, it's a three-way tie. Texas lost to Tech, Oklahoma beat Tech, everything else is moot.

As I said in my previous post, the BCS is not to fault for deciding the Big12 title game, that's up to the Big 12.

But the bolded of what you said, are very intriguing:

What if Alabama loses to Florida in the finals seconds or overtime? It would be their first loss, in a very close game to the hottest team in the country. Shouldn't that scenerio set up a rematch?

What if both Oklahoma and Alabama lose in conference title games while Texas takes the day off? Now, who plays for the title?

You cannot use the reasoning that Texas beat OU so they should be in the title game and completely ignore the fact that Tech beat Texas. I don't care how badly who beat who. This was a three way tie with all 3 losing to one of the others they are tied with. In this situation as a voter you have to look at the three teams and decide who you think is the better team. In my mind OU is the best of the 3 with Texas being very close.

In what was basically a home game for Texas....

Texas got beat by that team that got embarrassed by the Sooners. If that loss throws Tech out the window, then any team they beat shouldn't have a chance.

If you watch football it's fairly obvious that OU is better than Texas.

You obviously are not a fan of the Red River Shootout. It is NOT a home game for Texas. Look it up on the map and you will see the Cotton Bowl sits pretty close to equal distance between Austin and Norman. You will also be able to google pictures and see that the tix are equally distributed through OU and Texas and the attendance is even steven.

Texas lost to Tech on the last play of the game after playing poorly AT Lubbock. They had 2 chances to stop Tech before that last play.

The first was a dropped INT that would have ended the game 2 plays before.

The second was if the Texas RB had gone down at the 1 when he scored the go ahead TD on 2nd Down there would have been at least one more play and there would not have been enough time for the Raiders to make a comeback. (If you saw the game you would have seen these things)

I think either way someone was going to be miffed. I hate it that it was Texas but you know it's not like the Horns are chopped liver.

See, I can live with that logic. I think Texas has a legitimate case but someone is going to feel left out. Unfortunately it's my team.

Voters voted for Texas. BCS computers voted for OU.

To be honest, none of the teams have any gripe about being left out. If anyone of them would have taken care of business we wouldn't be having this discussion. The only sure (99%) way to not get left out is to run the table.

And like someone said earlier, Texas's argument that they should be in the title game will and should be used against them for going to a BCS bowl over Tech.

I still think they got this one right. I think OU is the best of the 3 and would lover to see a OU / Florida NT game.

The coaches had OU 2 and Texas 3. The Harris poll had Texas above OU. And last week the Harris poll had OU above Texas. They flip flopped this week for no reason. OU beat a good team in OK St and Texas beat down a bad A&M team.

Good point. Note that the only team not worried about their position right now is Alabama. If you're not undefeated, you leave it up to computers and voters.
