Can someone say #19 or 4 peat or choke again? It's amazing what nerves does to a a HS player and you know there will be alot of nervous players at Papa Johns today. St. X has the better team, and according to Glaser, the best team doesn't always win. Well, maybe the Tigers can turn it around tonight. We will see around 9:30pm who will have the bragging rights for the next year...

The Rocks may not prevail again tomorrow night. They have been on an incredible run of "taking everything from" the Tiger's - in the FINAL GAME - when it counts the most. What does the law of probability have to say about that?

 

This time - X clearly has the better team. They have to be extremely motivated based upon the crushing losses of the past. For history to repeat itself would be beyond incredible.

 

X has everything to loose. They are expected universally to win this time out.

 

The Rocks have everything to gain. We are happy for the opportunity to "play this out one more time." ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.

Who will be the unlikely hero? Last year it was a linebacker scoring on a leaping TD run, in 05 it was a center making a crushing tackle. History awaits the next page....

I belive that for T, it has to happen on D & SPT. I believe that it will be a SPT play that gives them a chance.

I find it amusing that the T faithful can state that the Tigers clearly have the better team, but when the same or similar words leave Coach Glaser’s mouth it is blown out of proportion. Today in the CJ, Coach Beatty was quoted that if he knew the answer to why his team played “tight” in the regular season matchup he would never lose a game. Could that be interpreted that, according to Coach Beatty, the Rocks would NEVER lose as long as they play loose because they are so superior? I’m smart enough to know that this is not what he meant, but again it would have been interesting to see how Coach G would be berated, criticized etc. if he made the same statement.

 

The Tigers have three championship game losses this decade to the Rocks. When I hear the words “crushing losses” I have to disagree. I would call the 2003 game expected and the 2005/2007 games "upsets". All three losses were deeply disappointing yes, but “crushing”? In 2003 we were in position to be the “spoiler” and did not pull it off-this after getting clearly outplayed during the regular season contest. In 2005 & 2007 the Rocks pulled the upset after greatly improving during the season-both victories were by a “single” touchdown and conversion so in reality a couple of plays or circumstances going the other way could have reversed the outcome. When people act like the Tigers should be embarrassed by coming up short and/or labeled as “choking” I find this mentality ridiculous. It cracks me up when injuries to key players in this matchup have been labeled excuses in years past and this year they are offered as rationale to why execution wasn’t completed. I loved Coach Beatty’s remark this week that the “substitute” players did not fumble or throw interceptions etc. and that they played their hearts out. He is absolutely right-these young men battled as best they could and were thrown into battle untested. I came away thinking Cam Smyth played one of the best overall games I had seen considering the situation and to see on the NFL film series the hits he was taking made me marvel even more. These are high school kids enjoying something that they will never forget and probably not realize until much later in life how fortunate they were to experience it. I have stated on here before that losing a game to Trinity is nothing to be ashamed of considering the talent, commitment, tradition and one of the best coaching staffs in the country that the Rocks bring to the table. The exact same thing could be said anytime the Rocks come up short against the Tigers because they do mirror each other quite a bit. Maybe it is because I did not attend either school that I see this more clearly than others.

 

The bottom line is that two OUTSTANDING programs are going at it again tonight. Good luck to both teams and here’s wishing to a non-injury contest and hard fought game. JS85 is right-anything can happen and guess what-the sun will rise again tomorrow regardless of how it shakes out.

Great post. I also thought that when I read Coach Beatty's comments, that I was impressed that he protected his players and I was impressed by this comment. There are comments by our general that I hear that I go with on faith and when I hear another generals comments, I normally look at it with cynicism but I have to admit that I really liked how Coach Beatty phrased this. He showed a side that we don't get to see on the Gold side very often. Hats off to him.

Hmmm. I find it amazing the comments you always make. Have you not forgotten, it takes 11 on the field doing your part to win a game. As for last year, it was the O-line who allow a linebacker to score. As for '05, it was the defensive unit playing their assigned roles. If you are looking for a unlikely hero, this year will be the 15,000 fans in the stands freezing their nose off.

 

These are high school kids enjoying something that they will never forget and probably not realize until much later in life how fortunate they were to experience it. I have stated on here before that losing a game to Trinity is nothing to be ashamed of considering the talent, commitment, tradition and one of the best coaching staffs in the country that the Rocks bring to the table.
