I'm pulling for the Bulldogs, even though Alabama Larry has dissed my Rocks.

My 11 year Old is going with his "X" friend to the X/Rocks game. Dad is going by himself to the Male game.

 

I just believe X has a great team and I'd love to see the game, who knows I might show up.

I know everyone is stating stuff about SK being the 4th seed but what not a lot of people must not realize is 1-5 in the district were very very competitive this year.

WHAT TO WATCH: Simon Kenton has made its way to the state semifinals in large part due to the fact that its best player, running back and defensive back Miles Simpson, is better than any player the opposition has. That probably won't be the case this week. Male senior Justin Green is an Ohio State recruit considered by scouting services as one of the top defensive backs in the country. He also plays running back and is the Bulldogs' top offensive threat; he averages 127.6 yards per game and has scored 20 touchdowns against a tough schedule. Last week against Scott County - a team that had allowed just 18 points per game - he recorded 330 yards of total offense and five touchdowns.

 

WHAT'S NEXT: The winner will advance to play either Trinity or St. Xavier in the state finals.

 

BOTTOM LINE: Both teams are peaking at the right time, but Male has proven itself against better competition. The Bulldogs are a solid favorite.

"We've got a shot; we really do," he said today before practice. "And it's not just a made-up, make-your-team-feel-good shot. ... We've had to do that twice."

 

Marksberry is referring to his two first-round playoff encounters with eventual big-school champion Trinity. The Shamrocks beat Simon Kenton 60-0 in 2001 and 52-0 in 2005.

 

"We (told the players,) 'We're going to go down there and show them Northern Kentucky football,'" Marksberry said. "It's not about that now. We've got just as good as a chance as they do."
