Prestonsburg 28

Corbin 14, maybe 21 since it's at home and the Cats have a bus trip

The game is at Corbin.

Well that works for me.:thumb:

Corbin wins going away. The Hounds and their coaching staff will have a few tricks up their sleeve, which will lead to some easy scores and make the difference in the game.

Corbin 31 Prestonburg 12

I hope you are right TNT fan but Prestonsburg will be the first big test for the Hounds in quite a while. Bath gave Corbin a fight but the Hounds were able to out talent them. This game they will have to use the talent they have and have them clicking. They will also have to play mistake free football and execute. I've not seen Prestonsburg's line but as most successful mountain teams, im sure they are big and physical. Corbin's O Line will have to play great and get a strong push to create for the backs. Watkins and Campbell will need some serious touches. Taylor has provided a great spark but I'd go with my two big guns on O for the most part. Taylor would be a good valve for the short passing game and get the blockers to create some space for him in the open field. It's definitely not going to be a walk in the park. I'd like to see Corbin continue getting good field position on their drives in the return game.

I have seen a lot of teams this year, good and bad, and the Corbin team that played Friday night was just an average team. I am sure they have played better and they better or this will be it. I have not seen P-burg play this year but I am still picking them. Should be a good game though!

Most discount Prestonsburg for the thrashing Beechwood gave them. And the perception of the Blackcats was not helped by the poor performances at the end of the season against Shelby Valley and Perry Central.

Whether you believe it or not, Corbin is undoubtedly the favorite in this game. And they should be. The Redhounds have been incredibly consistant this year.

Frankly, I'm surprised the poll is as close as it is... ;)

Sandbagger.

They played one of their worst games of the season and won by 22. Could have easily been a 40 point win. The big test for a team is to win when they aren't firing on all cylinders and Corbin did just that. Despite not hitting on all cylinders they still ran for more than 300 yards on the ground. Pretty good for an average team. ;)

Corbin 35-16.

What kind of styles are these two teams? Meaning what they do on off. def. stuff like that, and also what big games have they had this year and what happened in those games?

Corbin is smashmouth. They'll line up and run it down your throat until your can't walk. 3 very good backs even with the leading rusher out for the year from a midseason injury. One is about a 240 pound bruiser, the other is a 200 plus pound speedster, and the 3rd is a young talent who has been valuable catching the ball and running to the outside. Corbin has a first year senior starter at QB. He's been a pleasant surprise this year. He doesn't throw it much and really hasn't had the need to. However when he has, he has looked good. He has nice feet and can turn nothing into something.

The D has been pretty solid at stopping the run sans the Pikeville/LCA games. Both of those teams have running backs that will run on anyone. The pass D hasn't been tested too much but they have did well when forcing passing teams. South Laurel put up 21 but 1 of those was on the ground. I think the Corbin D is pretty solid. However, someone else will be able to answer these better as I've not been to as many games as I would have liked to.

Corbin's run defense has not been as strong this year as it normally is, but they had to replace 2 starting LB's and 3 on the DL and they tend to make the plays when they need to. The offense centers around the running of Campbell & Watkins with Taylor really starting to come on as of late. If P'burg can stop the running game, Corbin will be in trouble.

Corbin's best wins were over LCA & Knox Central, both who are still alive in the playoffs.

I don't see P'Burg Stopping Campbell or Watkins on the same night.

They did look bad against Beechwood, but Beechwood could whip most 4A or 5A schools, they do not need to be a 1A school!

Actually several 1A schools whipped up on some bigger schools. However I do agree with you, 1A schools with rosters that big have an unfair advatange over other 1A schools, but that's the way it goes. Good Luck to both teams but I a think Corbin wins this one. It's be close though. 1 TD.

It's very difficult to get an idea of how these two teams really match up.

Judging from what I've read here and stats on Riherds, this Corbin team sounds as though it plays the same style of football as the Corbin teams of 20 yrs. ago. That is to say they come straight at you and pass only enough to make the safeties think about it.

Prestonsburg runs inside and outside in equal measure and typically throws 10-15 times/game. It really is a balanced offense.

I'd love to get a little input from some football-smart Middlesboro fans (we've heard from Bath Co.) about how they see this matchup...

You there, southeast_bell ?? :sssh:
