Great first season for Coach Parkey following the legend Tom Larkey.

Looks like Bell County is rolling!

The Rockcastle score was the first allowed by Bell County since September 26! They've now given up 28 points in 12 games this season. Knox Central next week in the regional final; the Panthers probably gave Bell County their best game this season, losing 21-0 on September 12 in Barbourville. I'm not sure if it will be that close on Log Mountain next Friday.

Very close game in the 1st half 14-0 at half. Rock comes out and returns the kick back to the Bell 25 or so. Then scored a couple of plays later. First TD Bell had given up in a couple of MONTHS. I think it just made them mad b/c they scored 5 unanswered TD's to run away with the game. Great game for Bell and look foward to seeing what they have in store for Knox.

Rock really played Bell very hard and I have always had a great deal of respect for their program but tonight I overheard something on the chain crew that really disturbed me. One of the Rockcastle coaches directed one his players to take Bell's kicker, Monte merrick out on a extra point. I couldn't believe my ears, but yes he told his player to try to hurt him. That just isn't right, I don't care how you try to justify it. Very disapointing in a coach to intentionally try to hurt our kicker, or any player just because you are getting beat. I don't think coach Larkey would have put up with that and I don't think the Rockastle administration should either. I know what Coach Hilton would do! He would fire their tale. Congratulation to Rock on a good season but the coach that instructed a kid to hurt Monte should be fired!

Which Coach was it? I am sure it was not Coach Parkey. That really is not the way to do things, very disappointing indeed. :fire::fire:

Folks I will validate this statment by Mtn mafi by saying I know him and he would not indulge the truth 1%.:thumb:

Wow!!!! I agree:thumb:

Great Job Bell Co can't wait until Knox comes to town.

We are very proud of the boys at Rockcastle...they played their hearts out, especially in the first half. The seniors have nothing to hang their heads about. I don't know about what was posted about taking out the kicker. I did see a late hit by one of our boys after one extra point and I can't deny that. The favor was returned twice in the second half by Bell. The refereeing in this game was pathetic...and I mean the worst football reffing that I've seen since my boys played peewee football in little league. I've always heard about the "home cooking" on Log Mountain, but I got a taste of it tonight (my first trip there). I played in a game at Lynn Camp when I was a senior (back in the 80's....wayyyyy back) that might be comparable to what I saw tonight. The score with eight minutes to go in the third quarter was 14-7 and Rock had the ball. Five clock minutes later it was 35-7 after two onside kicks. Every time in the first half that Rock would mount a drive, (twice to the red zone) it was stopped by penalties. If I counted right, I think Rock got penalized six straight times in the first half before Bell got one. A few respectable calls, but many botched ones as far as I could tell. At the beginning of the game a touchdown on a fumble recovery was called back and I heard several accounts going both ways about whether the kids knee was down when he recovered it, but I don't know for sure. That would have been a big play at the start of the game. (Rockcastle had more than 250 yards offense) All in all it was a hard hitting game. If the refs would have stayed out of it, the game would have been much closer with Bell probably still winning. But, I wouldn't have left feeling like Rock got cheated...just beaten. Good luck to Bell on the rest of the season, they have a fine team. I hope a Boyle-Bell matchup happens... it would be nice if it could be for the championship. Oh yeah, the refs are the pits on Log Mountain...and it sure is cold up there:eek:.

Talked to Merrick after game...and has bruised ribs, and saw some film after game. He not only took him out for a penalty on the PAT but went clear across the field and took him down with a blind side hit on a kickoff.....Merrick grabbed the player by the facemask...something that kickers have been known to do....and refs tend to ignore...on roughing....and the player punched Merrick while on ground and received another personal foul penalty for his retaliation! Side note: game film showed that the same player did the same thing to Merrick in the Rockcastle regular season game....the only other time this has happened in twelve games! Not what we have come to expect from Rock, usually a classy team and organization.

Officiating was a little questionable at times...but for both teams. Playoffs are assigned...and this crew was from a District somewhere else. To my knowledge they have not ever been to Log Mountain. No "mashed potatoes and gravy" here! LOL! Both teams were served the same dish from KHSAA!!

By the way....Kentucky is recruiting him....and we need to keep him in good shape....he knows how to execute ONSIDE KICKS!!! lol!

I have to agree with you about the referreeing in the game I have to say it reminded of the 2005 game it was worse then because it made the difference. Good luck to Bell on the rest of the season. As for the ROCK don't be ashamed of your season take it as a lesson learned, regroup and come out fighting:fight::fight: next season.

Hope he is in Blue/White. I've seen him on onside kicks, he hits the top of the ball so hard and it bounces perfectly up in the air for a recover. Truly a weapon that no team can hope to replace.

Congrats to the seniors and all who is involved from Rock, I know those seniors have nothing to hang their head about. Great group of boys, played hard for 4 years and contributed every season for a successful 4 years. Congrats again! The majority of those kids look small but they play harder than a full grown man and pack a huge punch. I'm sure the score doesn't indicate how hard they played and hit tonight.

Add our congratulations as well from the Bobcat fans. Most of us have a great respect for the rivalry and tradition. Hardfought battles on the field in the past and in the years to come. Good luck to Rock seniors as they end their career tonight...something that I know is hard...but their strength will help them in all aspects of life. Sure was a cold, icy, mess out there tonight for both teams!

Bell is super this year. The only surprise here is that the Rock scored. This has been a great rivalry over the years. Does anyone know if they will remain in the same class next year.
