Bell County 49 Rockcastle County 7

Featured Replies

Bell is super this year. The only surprise here is that the Rock scored. This has been a great rivalry over the years. Does anyone know if they will remain in the same class next year.

Yes, definatley. Alignment is already set. Neither school is near the 5A margin.

Great jo BC

I did see a late hit by one of our boys after one extra point and I can't deny that. The favor was returned twice in the second half by Bell

When did Rock kick two extra points in the last two years against Bell??? It is totally uncalled for to hit a kicker/punter after the kick, he is unprotected and very vunerable. It was a bush league move to the 900th degree.

On the fumble recovery the player was clearly down. It is not NFL you can't get off the ground and run. Besides that he was touched while he was down so even in the NFL he was down!!!!!!!! Look at the film it does not lie.

Rock played very hard and is still one of the top 5 teams in 4A. I applaude the group of seniors they have very tough kids. #22 has been a tough little nut for a few years. I wish them luck in life. Coach Parkey did a good job in his first year and Rock was Rock. Bell is just better in all phases.

Don't take me wrong on the post above...Bell is one heck of a team. And I'm certainly glad that I got to see Merrick kick before he left because that kid is the real deal and I really hope he wasn't hurt too badly. I will be back to the mountain several times over the next five or six years and I just hope that I get to see better officiated games than I saw tonight. Bell was better tonight, and there was no doubt about it, but I feel that if the officiating had been better, Rock may have made it much closer. I'm thinking more along the lines of three scores instead of one, possibly two in the first half. I would like to see the stat on penalties for just the first half of the game. Good luck Bell on the rest of the season, hope to see you at Boyle if you get past Knox. :thumb:

Bell Co had nothing to do with the officiating it is assigned by the KHSAA. I thought that the officiating was pretty balanced and they called the obvious penalties. When Bell beats KC this week they won't be going to anywhere they will be at home.

I understand your frustration papagrit but 2 personal fouls on Bell 2nd half. First one was called when Rockcastle threw a pass in the flats and was deflected and Bell's free saftey unloaded on him while ball was in the air, legal hit, wrong call by the official. The second one was stupid on the Bell kids behalf. But he was sent to the sideline. Rock had at least 3 personal fouls that were just simply intentional and meant to hurt Bell kids. I sure would hate to see Rock get the reputation that Knox has.

Officiating was a little questionable at times...but for both teams. Playoffs are assigned...and this crew was from a District somewhere else. To my knowledge they have not ever been to Log Mountain. No "mashed potatoes and gravy" here! LOL! Both teams were served the same dish from KHSAA!!

:thumb: If anything, playoff games give you the opportunity to see the kind of officiating that other areas have to put up with all year. Very little middle ground, it seems. It's either very good or clueless.

Too bad. Two of my favorite playoff road game sites. ;):ylsuper:

Yes he does! :thumb: Managed to capture the second one in this photo...perfectly executed.

Obviously I was not there to see any of what was going on but why would you onside kick the ball two or three times in the second half after have already scored when it seemed obviously that the game was in hand?

Like I said I was not there and am just asking this question as someone who had read the update thread here on BGP.

I geuss not to let Rockcastle have the ball back. I thought it was pretty good for Bell Co to do this. It gives the next opponnets something that they have to spend time working on in practice instead of working on something else. It is a weapon that may have to used in the future pretty smart in my book.

Oh yeah, the refs are the pits on Log Mountain...

Well....the crew was from Lexington.

Funny, I worked a state championship game with this referee several years ago between TWO "mountain" teams. I distinctly remember the two of us laughing at the ridiculous accusations of incestuous favoritism by BOTH sides.

Even in the playoffs, when my Northern Kentucky crew works games in the eastern part of the state, we get these ridiculous comments. Other places, they just boo. In the mountains, they tend to make accusations of payoffs and being the brother-in-law of the opposing coach's wife.

I'm probably stepping in a big steaming pile on this one, but what gives with this insecure attitude toward officials that seems to only be present in Eastern Kentucky?

Refs are often criticized, in ALL parts of the State and rarely deserved. Let's get back to Bell County and Rockcastle County discussion.
