Thanks for the kind words Ryan... all tonight means in the scope of the Belfry/Russell rivalry is that the next time these teams play Russell will be out for blood!:thumb:

 

I really think Russell has some serious offseason work to do if they are going to be able to keep this rivalry ticking. Unless they are hiding some giants in the field house at Henry R. Evans stadium, they look to be pretty small next year. I fear future meetings with Belfry may result in a replay of tonight. Rarely do you see a team obliterated like this in a real "rivalry".

Belfry will have to replace Elkins, Lee, and Dotson.. as well as Whetstone and Coleman. The Pirates will ahve their work cut out next year as well. Have faith in the Devils, now they have something to think of every day during the Summer and know what level they have to get back to.

This team was well prepared for this game. Russell was just outmatched everywhere. Abrams is a special back, but he really had nowhere to go. The 70 or so yards he got tonight, he earned them.

 

Russell is a class program. Emotions ran a little high on both teams tonight but I liked it when they took a time out and both coaches appeared to settle them down. Good stuff.

The drawback to this is maybe the mental aspect. We need to stay focused and not get an inflated opinion of ourselves. We have a lot of hard work ahead of us and we can't relax because we played this well this week. We have to take one week at a time and stay hungry and keep on working hard and keep on improving.

One regret about this coming week is that I won't get to watch the Highlands vs Johnson Central matchup. That is shaping up to be a great game.

Belfry is 5 TD's better than SC.... but with the way SC approaches playoff games and their style of ball, that 5 TD's can be erased quickly if Belfry brings anything less than their A-game.

Does anyone know the final stats?

I do know the yardage stats were 504 yards for Belfry coming with 496 on the ground and 7 passing and Russell ended up with 93 yards, 88 rushing and 5 passing... according to WXCC

Russell seniors- you guys turned it around during the Raceland game and got a win in the playoffs after many people wrote you off. You played your best and you have nothing to hang your head about.

Congrats to the Devils and a good season. Good luck to Belfry to rest of the way. I have a good friend who is a Belfy football alum and won a couple of state championships there a few years ago...he will be bragging about another Belfry win all week at school. Good luck the rest of the way guys.

Wildcat Willy, I believe you and I commented before the Belfry-Johnson Central game that if Belfry could beat Johnson Central, then Russell might as well not board the bus for the ride to Belfry. As the game approached, I tried to fool myself that Russell might have a shot. Reality hit tonight, though. They shouldn't have boarded the bus after all. Belfry is in another league from Russell. Russell rose up and matched Belfry in 2005 and 2006, but now it appears it's back to business as usual.

 

Exactly Ryan,predicted earlier that the Pirate's will leave Louisville with the big trophy,really dont think they can be stopped unless they stop there self.:thumb:
