I have seen them both, and when healthy, they are both solid ballclubs. Both are coached by class acts IMHO in Jim Black & Johnny Hines. I see Whitley winning because they are one of the most physical teams I have seen play this season. I don't think the Colonels can stop PC from scoring some points as they are blessed with several weapons, especially Muse and Hines. However, I also am not sure that the Maroons can slow down WC's running attack enough to control the game.

I don't think a coach mentioning another school in the paper gives someone the right to judge a persons character. Coach Hines is one of the classiest men/coaches in the business. I had the pleasure of living in Somerset and getting to know him very well. Once you have met him and know his beliefs you will change your thoughts! He is a Christian man and one of the best fathers around. Let alone Coach! Somerset won't play Pulaski each year and you better believe PC would play them twice a year if they could! I am glad I didn't have to play for someone who has zero class like Hines. Coach Anderson and Coach Cobb never get in the paper and make bone head comments like that. Cobb has said some not so good things but he has really changed in the last 5 years, I have not heard anything negative out of him. Its always from the other side of town. Anyway good luck to both teams as always I hope the home town team wins.

Very well said, I would only add that as of late they have tightened up defensively quiet a bit.

I would really like to root for Pulaski to win this one because they've got some really good kids on thier team, but after this quote by Coach Hines in Saturday's Commonwealth Journal I just can't:

 

“We’ll claim that city championship again,” pointed out Hines. “We were fortunate enough to beat Southwestern, who did beat Somerset, and of course you know Somerset is just a little old single A school that doesn’t want to play all the other big schools. Since they wouldn’t play us this year, we’ll claim that city championship, and we’re glad to have it.”

 

Just an unnecessary shot when he should have been happy about his team's playoff win. Somerset had nothing to do with Pulaski's win or even their season this year for that matter. He seems to try to get in a shot on his Alma Mater any chance he gets though so we're used to it.

 

As for this week's game I think it is scary that the Colonels were able to shut out a South Laurel team that scored 60 on the Maroons. I think Pulaski has improved a lot the last few weeks but I think they are outmanned this week. Whitley County 34-Pulaski County 20.

 

I love that quote by Hines! Glad to know that the city/county thing happens in places other than Harlan County! He can gladly come down the road and take those kind of shots at our city cousins. I know Hines well and he is a stand up guy. A good man and a good coach!
