I feel sorry for whoever takes that job. Not bc of the kids and the talent that a school like GCHS has. That school has athletes and always have. I feel sorry for whoever takes it due to the "good ol' boys society" that has always existed in Lloyd. Should there be a hand picked coach by the "inner circle of god ol' boy's" known as the GCHS adminstration that may buy that person another couple of years but even the hand picked coaches at GC have had themselves turned on by the very people that wanted them in the first place. Should it be an outsider to the program and school system then that person better have thick skin and the ability and confidence to tell some people that it is his team, he makes the football decisions and if they don't like it .........well I think you know the rest

 

I really hope that GC can get it's football program back on track. A one time AAAA State Champion to the present state of the program is something that I never thought that I would see.

 

I am not putting down all of GC, they have some great kids that are very good athletes. There also are a lot of very good and supportive parents there that I know support the program, school and their kids.. I am talking about what I feel has always been the problem. There imo is more politics at GC than there was in the recent presidential election :irked:. A very few rule many at GCHS. They always have and in reality probably always will. Things will not permanately change untill that does. JMO

So....my advice as an outsider (which is not worth much) is....

1.) Admin. - Let the coach that you hire run his program the way the he see's fit.

 

2.) Parents - support your kids no matter what, quit putting down other parent's kids support the new coach, let that coach, coach his team. Let the players play the game and don't try and play the game through your kids.

 

3.) This thing called h.s. football is about the kids, not the Admin or parents. parents.

 

Good luck to GCHS with getting a new coach. I have a lot of friends down there and I wish the Musketeer's luck :thumb:. (except for when you play Raceland ).

GCHS will be 8-3 (at the worst) next year if everything that is posted in this post comes to fruition.

If the new coach is not the "right" one, this program could be set back an additional 4-6 years in the process of being successful. From what I hear, Wurtland is not having a middle school team next year and the overall talent pool in the current middle school programs is not up to snuff. If the new coach doesn't bring out the numbers from the 4 classes, he is going to be in trouble.

Thanks, I haven't tried to live through my sons in football, I've just tried to work hard and put the boys first - most of the parents that I know in the TD Club does this - we have our fair share of non-workers, complainers, "football stars" that have tried to do no good but all in all the parents do support their sons, I like Coach Sammons - he is a very good man and Christian. As far as the Lloyd situation - I don't know anything about it or I do not care about it - I just hope the Musketeers do well next year and be proud of the job that they do.

You could copy and paste some of the same posts from the basketball forum when they were about to hire a new basketball coach. I doubt in my lifetime we'll see the athletic program at GCHS reach their unlimited potential because of the community influence that cuts the legs out from under any coach who takes the court/field. Cant imagine a very long line of applicant's, i think most people know what there up against and dont want the headache,some coaches like a challenge but i think this is a lot more than a challenge. Having graduated from GCHS, i would like to see them turn it around.

Well first of all how can we expect a coach to even consider coming to Greenup with all the negative talk that is posted on here mostly from people who do not even have kids at Greenup and are saying things that they have just heard. Second- all of the talk about the good ole boy system it is in every school to some point. I am part of the Touch down club and it is full of good hard working people who are trying to make the best happen for their boys.Yes there is a few bad apples but like I said they are at every school. As far as coaching, Sammons was a nice person but he was not the coach that the school needed,he never did have the boys respect not from any thing the parents done just lack on his part. As far as a new coach I have heard several peoples names mentioned, but personally I hope they are not from this area at all. I don't know the situation that happened with TJ maynard but I know that the boys that are there at the school now, do not in any way need to puinished for it. And for that matter neither do the parents that had nothing to do with it.It is time to move on and support the school and the hard working boys who are on that field every day just the same as RUSSELL,RACELAND,ASHLAND etc....:madman:

Guys no offense, but you Raceland guys have no idea what has gone on the past few years. All you know is what you have heard. We have a new super. who is really putting alot of effort into getting the athletics at GC back to where it should be. We have the talent and the support. I understand that TJ was done wrong, but that had to do with a totaly different group of fans, parents, admin etc. It doesnt represent what is going on now.
