Not very if you read some of posts above. Speed kills as they say, but whats worse is that Highlands has some size and speed. This game could get ugly pretty fast but you never know, it is playoff time afterall.

 

I think their big men are very athletic and pretty fast. And they have great team speed. Highlands folks are in for a big, big surprise when they see Bryan Station Friday night.

I will reserve my opinion until I see the tape tonite at the Tuesday Night Dad's Club...same place, same time as always!

TD, its not kool aid this time. Bryan Station is a very, very talented football team. They will provide some very difficult matchups for us. I watched tape of them last night. Birds better bring their A plus game or No. 18 will have to wait. Seriously. This will be the best team we've faced this year other than Colerain.

 

And I still think the Birds win by more than 3 TD's!

D1 means nothing when facing the Birds.

Tell me about it. LIke I said, don't shoot the messenger. Against Madison Central, the first team defense didn't come out till less than two minutes to play and last week first team defense played the whole game. This past week I could see keeping most and mixing some others in, but against Madison, C'mon. Whatever! It's hard to argue with success though. But to what expense.

 

Too many times in years past the starters were pulled early. I remember when the mistake of letting Lorenzen, Smith, and others coming out after the half in street clothes. The team that they were up on ended up coming back to the point that they almost had to run in and put uniforms back on. I think that mistake will never be made again.

 

Also, These guys haven't had that many close games this year and need to get some reps and build their endurance up to survive for a whole game. I don't blame them at all for keeping the D-starters in entire time. If they kept passing with starters on Offense until the end and "appearing to run up the score" then I would have to take issue with that. I have seen a few instances where it wasn't necessary to get another score but it was done. It's one thing to do it via grinding it out with a bunch of running plays, but with a few bombs, that seems to be unnecessary. I am not upset but it is rough to be on the other side of that. Just ask the JV when St X routed them.

 

So, long story short, they are doing the right thing by keeping the Defense in longer. It may not hurt to rotate in some of the 2's but only if breaks would be needed. Highlands knows what they are doing and so does Dale. How many has he coached now that have won state titles? I would say enough to trust him in that he has a good game plan.

With 12 guys over 250 and 3 over 300, these boys may wear down our guys a little more than what they have been used to. I do think that Central had a few big fellas and you see how it worked out for them....

That's all I would like to see. I have no problem with first teams staying in most of the game especially late in the season to build their endurance. They are going to need it because it only gets harder from here on out.

I agree with you. Over-confidence isn't a good idea at this point in the season. Bryan Station is going to be a tough opponent and the Birds need to be ready for a war.

Now I understand why LN and Henry gave the predictions they did because that's their usual routine, cautious. I don't understand the broad spectrum of predictions so far though. We don't really know anything about them and are there any common teams that we've both played to compare or gauge the team by? Without a basis for comparison and given their size of 15 kids over 250 lbs. They do make me sort of nervous. I'll be pensive prior to making any predictions. The only prediction I can make is that I will be there Friday to see what happens.

Big...some backfield/reciever speed...average running/ passing games. Look like they have the ability to control the game running, if they don't turn the ball over. Really tight offensive splits, then they try to race to the corners. Multiple kickers...one looked female. Conditioning looked suspect. Lots of cannon Friday!

I am not sure how to interpret that. Was the kicker actually a girl or was it just a person with a long pony tail hanging out of their helmet that may just have certain mannerisms? I know that Conner HS had a few girls on there team in the past few years or so. Is this girl as good of a kicker as Kathy Ireland was on the movie Necessary Roughness? My curiosity is sparked for sure, please tell more.
