I hope her supervisors have seen this video. Its disgraceful for teacher to try to sway young minds to a political candidate or philosophy! I have taught high school age kids in Political Science and Government for years and I am always very careful to not let my own opinions out. When students ask me my opinion, I tell them my opinion shouldnt matter and they should, after a lot of research and thought, come to their own opinion.

The teacher had no right whatsoever to say what she did... She has to hold herself as a professional and she has failed to do so. Action needs to be taken against her to make sure this never happens again.

I think it is a positive thing to engage children this age in political discussion, but the way in which she did was irresponsible and immature.

This miserable failure of a teacher had better be thankful she has the protection of the NEA and whatever state EA is applicable to provide protection against dismissal. I showed this video to my wife (who is an elementary school teacher) and she was speechless.

Just as the girl did... When I was that age, I supported who my parents supported because I did not know any better. I very seriously doubt that they would listen to me as a 10 year old telling them what I thought about the election.

 

Part of me wishes that they didn't discuss these things in grade school at all. I don't think children should concern themselves with things that are well out of their hands, and to get them worried about politics and things at such a young age just robs them of their innocence, IMO. Ignorance is truly bliss, let the kids be kids.

She said it's not their job to influence people in politics, but to entertain and take peoples minds off the stuff going on in the world. I tend to agree with her.
