I would happen to disagree. This is not a pro team where an entire area wants to read about that one team ,they want to read about their school or their kids or their grand kids school. They could care less about reading about one or two other schools on a daily basis. I don't remember reading much about Brossart, Campbell, SK, Scott just to name a few who made it into Reginals in a couple of differrent sports over the past few years. The Kentucky Post did a much better job than what we have seen since it ended circulation.

 

Which are all NOT 9th region teams. If I'm not mistaken it's Ryan's job to only cover 9th region teams.

Would you agree those teams are Nortern Kentucky teams and therefore should be part of the Kentucky Enqurier coverage. I live in Northern Kentucky and would like to read some coverage of all schools in this area since they also represent Northern Kentucky.

Or maybe it's the fact that Highlands and CovCath are typically in the top 3 in both football and basketball. In addition, those teams usually play the tougher schedules and players from around the state. I am pretty certain Ryan came to Silver Grove multiple times to do stories on Corey Pelle. People want to read about the top teams and players. If you want coverage, work on your game and get better.

I'm pretty sure it's Ryan's job to cover all of NKY, and he does a pretty good job of it; even though it may appear he concentrates of CovCath and Highlands. I've always thought it seemed the Enquirer in general had a staff writer housed at CovCath, but I've seen Ryan at several other school's football games this year. He covers the NKY schools basketball games at the All "A" in Richmond (including the finals on Super Bowl Sunday), the Catholic Charities Classic between NKY and Cincy teams (or whatever its called now), and turns up all over in baseball.

 

Face it, CovCath in hoops & football and Highlands in football often play some of the more interesting matchups like GCL schools, the bigger Louisville schools, out-of-state schools, etc.; as well as have a pretty compelling rivalry between themselves? I think you'll generally find him at the most intriguing game of the day, regardless of the location; but remember he's only one guy and the Enquirer doesn't devote a lot of resources to NKY Sports!!

You are mistaken. Ryan's job description includes covering high school athletics in Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties. What region those schools are in means nothing.

PMP....sorry buddy, but gotta disagree with you on this one. I usually agree w/you, but here's my question. Would he have come to SG "multiple" times if it wasn't for an exceptional talent in Corey? I contend not, and I believe even without Corey, SG deserves a little press regardless of their size and/or talent level (along with the Ludlows, Dayton's, Calvary's etc.) Sure the big games get MORE coverage, but the little guy still should not be ignored. As far as work on your game and get better, please don't overlook the obstacles facing the smaller guys. Many can "work on their game and get better" continuously and still not reach the Ccath-Holmes-Boone levels.:thumb:

The very fact that you all bring up CovCath and Highlands in a thread about Bellevue's coach is the EXACT reason why Ernst and his employer find it more appropriate to report about CovCath and Highlands more than others. For a variety of reasons, the interest simply isn't there about the smaller schools.

Uphill-I actually remember a front page article the Enquirer did on Josh Neace, the handicapped manager from SG who made the free throw. That was the front page for the entire area, not just KY and led to interest from many regional and national media outlets. With over 30 schools to cover in NKY, and a limited budget, they do above and beyond.

I'll give you that and that is commendable. I'm a big SG fan as well as a fan of the "little guy" and I'm simply saying that for the most part, the smaller schools get less coverage unless there is a special talent. I simply think they (the smaller schools) are too often overlooked. JMO:thumb:

I remember the Enquirer and the Post at the time giving Bishop Brossart very good coverage in the '05, '06 and '07 timeframes; of course two of those years they finished first in the final NKY coach's poll. Ernst is almost always at all the All "A" games for the NKY schools, including the 9:00 AM NCC--BB game, and the final on Super Bowl Sunday in '07. They covered the run by St. Henry in '03 very well (as they should have), NCC's All "A" championship, and even many of the small school's girl's better teams.

 

They'll cover the small schools when they have their better teams, but as many have pointed out; there is simply more interest in the traditional hoops' powers (And maybe just a little CCH bias by the Enquirer ).

Well, as a Bellevue alum, I hope that this guy stays and trys to build the program back up. Bellevue hasn't had good luck with coaches recently and I hope Coach Herald can do something with Bellevue this year. They have plenty of talent there, not as much as last year but it is definatly there. Good luck to the boys from Bellevue and Coach Herald as well.
