Fidelity to Cut Nearly 1,300 Jobs

Fidelity Investments announced today that it will cut nearly 1,300 jobs (3% of it's workforce) this month, and even more early next year. There is no word, at this point, how these cuts might effect the large Fidelity service center in NKY.

I guess in a year or two we'll see if the new economy allows Fidelity to expand again. But I feel sorry for the 1,300 people who are going to be laid off.

Fidelity just hired my neighbor on a part time basis I believe. She has a ton of experience and recently was out of the workforce for about 6-9 months. hmmmmm

I work with a guy whose girl friend just went from being a temp to a full-time employee in NKY for Fidelity. Hope it works out for her and the others who are sitting on pins and needles right now.

I worked there for 6 years... I'm told from friends that it will hit the Boston area the hardest... Not so much here in NKY... Since a lot of operations jobs are here.

Alot of companies are cutting back on matching contributions to 401k's. There is also talk in the Congress about ending 401k's. These two issues and a down economy are sure to rock this industry.

From what I understand, most of the lay offs are effecting Middle Management. Most of the CSS reps (customer service reps) should be ok.
