November 5, 200817 yr Like it or not, we ARE part of the world, NOT the world itself. I don't believe the scriptures promote political boundaries.True, but most of the world couldn't give two hoots about this country, regardless of who's in charge. Until they need us, that is.
November 5, 200817 yr True, but most of the world couldn't give two hoots about this country, regardless of who's in charge. Until they need us, that is. With almost 200 countries in the world, you are probably right. A majority of those live in poverty and couldn't care less about who sits in the White House. However, we are leaders in the world. Leaders should be respected and admired by those that have the capability to do so.
November 5, 200817 yr I'm sorry, but the world celebrating scares me. I just have a bad feeling about things, but I'll hope for the best.
November 5, 200817 yr The world liked Clinton too. I think the world is celebrating because the Bush admin won't continue.
November 6, 200817 yr The world liked Clinton too. I think the world is celebrating because the Bush admin won't continue. Even though his foreign policy was problematic for us in the Middle East. Which his successor also took further down the toilet.
November 6, 200817 yr They say the man that brings peace to the middle east will be the anti-christ. Oh noooooo!!! We didn' listen!!!!
November 6, 200817 yr I was relatively happy when Sarkozy took over in France after dealing with Chriac for so long... not dancing in the streets happy... but relatively happy. The simple fact is that here in the states we really don't get a lot of news about politics in the rest of the world; and when we do, we generally don't care. As the most influential nation on Earth, our election is watched with great attention around the world, and just like here, people stand firm behind whichever candidate they like... despite not being able to vote for him. Not for nothing, but the ruling Christian Social Union lost its absolute majority in Bavaria for the first time in 46 years last month. I was very upset to hear that it had happened. Sometimes politics around the globe do matter to people.
November 6, 200817 yr The world is celebrating for one reason. The fact that a man of color has won the most powerful office on the planet. Nothing more, nothing less. Straight up race bias. If you think a common person living in a 3rd world country cares about this country, you're nuts. If Obama favored his white family, rather than black, this world wide party would not be happening. It is solely race related.
November 6, 200817 yr I heard Russia celebrated today also, but instead of firing guns in the air; they announced they were deploying short range missles to the Polish border, blamed the US for the world financial crisis and the war in Georgia, and announced plans to jam US missle defense systems in Eastern Europe?? Interesting??
November 6, 200817 yr I posted a picture from Iraq. My friend in Jordan said there were guns being fired in the air when the news broke. (which is good- they do it at weddings, too) Do they do that at funerals also?
November 6, 200817 yr The comments in this thread are sad. I hate to break it to a lot of y'all but the United States isn't the only country in the world. I actually like when our country is viewed upon favorably. Sometimes we have to do actions that are going to make certain countries angry and that is understandable. But, we should not hope to purposelessly be scorned by the rest of the world. I suggest that some try and read newspapers and magazines from other parts of the world. Go to a foreign country and talk with people. At the very least you will gain some perspective. I know that some may think I'm some peace loving hippie with these comments, but anyone should know I'm far from it. Like I said, there have been times and may continue to be times when as a country we need to take action that may not be favorable with the int'l community. I feel that is just and what any country would/should do. But to be upset that other countries like our President-Elect, well that is foolish. And honestly, the ME liking the pick is a VERY good thing. There has never been peace there and as some have pointed out, they haven't really liked any President we have had in a long time. That the ME supports this decision may mean there may be a chance at real peace sometime in the future.

What is sad to me is the fact that anyone from another country dislikes us because of our government. That's like me hating the French people because of their government. Just plain ignorant.
