Call me a raving left-wing socialist, but I have no problem with taxpayer-funded trade adjustment programs.

I don't either, I'm all for them. That doesn't preclude someone from teaching themselves a new skill though.

I'm an accountant. I "retrained" myself to learn other skills by going to the library and getting books on what I wanted to learn. Cooking, carpentry, computers, whatever. Sure it takes effort but what doesn't?

You can also "retrain" yourself by taking night classes or online classes. Learn a trade...whatever. Complaining about your lot in life and not doing anything about it gets you no where.

You think $8.00 is enough to survive on? Because that is what managers make at the local McDonald's. Police officers in my hometown make around $19K per year.

Are those people lazy, inept, or have zero motivation? I don't think so, I think they're hardworking and underpaid. But a lot of them are well past their teen years, and have a family to support. So the idea of "retraining" or going to college is out the window.

That is a heck of a defeatest attitude.

Yet. :D

Could not be further from the truth. Just because you are not a teen ager and have a family does not mean you can't get your college degree. There are plenty of people that are / were in this situation and have worked their butts off to better their situation.

This came up in a conversation with a friend and honestly it seems far fetched and unrealistic at first glance but honestly think about it. If Obama brings sweeping social change and laws would it be completely impossible to see a bigger divide than the one we had going in to this election. How would the south tolerate unrestrictive abortions, unlimited and extra benefits to gay couples, unlimited affirmative action, and constant appeasement to the United Nations and Europe. I don't believe any of Obama's economic policies will divide this country but I wonder what his social policies will do to this country.

The message on defining marriage was clear yesterday despite O's victory.

Did not each ban on homosexual marriage win yesterday?

They did, I'm just thinking ahead to what a new Supreme Court might say on the matter. If they speak state constitutions will not matter.

Is there a book (besides the Bible), that says that? I didnt know there was a laws of nature guide book for the non religious.

Heterosexual people certainly do not have sex only for procreation.

If sex was only meant to be used for another job (procreation), then God would not have made it so much fun.:sssh:

Our minister spoke on the pleasure of sex within the confinds of marriage recently. He said that God did make it pleasureable, but it was to be within the marriage of a man and a woman.

The states have the right to determine this issue, as according to the 10th Amendment. The Federal government was given no authorithy in this area, but then Obama really doesn't believe in the Constitution as it is written, he wants judges to make up things.

It was closer than the electoral vote indicates....

Much closer. Look at the county by county nation wide.

Wow. Are you serious? "Retrain" themselves? You think they can magically "retrain" themselves for a better job?

They go to school, they find someone who is willing to help them. There a all sorts of government programs to help people find and train for new careers.

If they do not make an effort to improve theirselves they are just stuck. No one else is going to do it for them, unless a liberal comes along and hands them everything. Why try to improve yourself and your situation, if the government just going to give it to you? There are already too many young people who believe that, I hope it changes as they age.

I have to agree with you there. No where in the bible are there "laws of nature"

As far as the bolded part...

You are correct there is nothing about laws of nature in the Bible, the statement was made for the non-religious. But the Bible does talk about marriage being between a man a woman.

Define plenty of people. Because the ones I know could barely get through high school. College is not for everyone.

But the pedophile can't help it. "God made him that way, so God has to agree with it"

I'm not really sure what point you are trying to make.

Why do you keep bringing up what God thinks?

If it is against United States law, it is against United States law. It doesn't matter if God made anyone anyway, pedophilia is against the law and you are attempting to compare it to something that is not against the law.

If you are working 40-60 hours a week and raising a family, is that always possible?
