Ears burning here....just a bit. As a self-proclaimed pot-stirrer, yes mine do have a common theme because I am 100% a McCain supporter. However, the "pot-stirring" threads are not meant to influence at all but just meant to kick start a discussion.

I always enjoy your threads and my comments were not directed at you. The threads that I had in mind were the ones lacking in any factual basis such as some of the ridiculous internet chain letters, which are generally at least half full of lies, and the stuff that came from Daily Kos and similar garbage sites.

November 5, 200817 yr Here's what happened to me: I was a John Edwards supporter, BIG TIME. When he was out, I was in a quandry. As a registered Independent, I couldn't vote in the primary, but I started looking into all the possibilities on both tickets. I read a ton of outside sources, participated in some "discussions" here, and took some of my thoughts to "real" people. When Obama won, I was still in a quandry. Seveal things influenced my decision from there. First, the considerable vileness of many people's reactions to Obama. Not the stuff about his policies, other ugly stuff. I began doing more research, trying to step back and look into all sides, trying to put myself in his shoes when he was making the decisions he was making. I actually am pretty good at that. In the end, I suppose you can say BGP influenced my vote. But, only in the same way as a religious debate here does. By feeling compelled to defend something, I found a way to firm up my decision. But, I just want to say, if I were a weak minded individual, and only read BGP, several of y'all would have scared me into voting for McCain. :lol:
November 5, 200817 yr No. I was not at all thrilled with this year's election until McCain chose Palin for his running mate. Her conservative values made it a little more exciting. However, that being said, I would have voted for McCain because of his pro-life voting record even if Palin weren't on the ticket.

November 5, 200817 yr Not my votes. I did start using the phrase "no incumbent voting strategy" in an ode to HHSDad though. I am glad that I influenced votes. I urge y'all to continue to be open-minded and to consider 3rd party candidates (especially the LP).

Heck, I'll admit it: I was trying to influence members to vote for McCain and hopefully I did it in a manner that wasn't considered offensive, pot-stirring or unfair. If someone thinks I was, I apologize. I'll say this old man Socrates: they say that if you spend a fire fight in a fox hole with someone, you really get to know him. I'd say we got to know one another a lot better (for the worse in cases?) as a result of this election. Good luck and God's blessings President elect Obama to make wise decisions and guide our country. I hope you are as centrist as you said you'd be in your campaign.
November 5, 200817 yr My opinion was already made. It was interesting to hear both sides on BGP and helped in many ways to solidify my decision. Though I chose the loser, IMO I still chose the one whom I felt best suited the office of Presidency. I share leatherneck's comments. I pray that President elect Obama is influenced wisely and makes decisions that are possitve for our country.
