As it was last year this game exhibited the best atmosphere in high school football. Both teams gave a great effort showed the kind of sportsmanship we can all be proud of and each refused to quit. Raceland can be proud they beat a 3A team that can make alot noise in the playoffs. May God bless both schools for the rest of year.

I just enjoyed the atmosphere, it was a great crowd, two great teams, and a great football game. That is what high school football is about. Plus, I couldn't go anywhere with out having to stop and talk to people I knew. I almost never got to the bathroom. It was a great time.

Folks, I think we have to understand that Raceland was playing a different kind of football tonight. Beechwood and LCA was there scouting, and Raceland was preparing for the playoffs. Raceland did not run a lot of the plays and formations that they normally run. This was a different kind of offense. I think that the Raceland coaching staff wanted see if Raceland could win a big game running the ball, instead of passing.

 

They were making Raceland mulit-dimensional. I think Raceland played well, not perfect, and they won't. It was just a different Raceland.

 

Russell played very well, and I have to say they played better then I expected. I had heard from Russell fans that they did not play with emotion, and I have to say it looked like they had plenty of emotion tonight. I think this game may have done a lot for Russell in getting them ready for the playoffs. If they play like this in the playoffs, I think many will be surprised.

 

Russell played well, and my hat is off to them, they never gave up and played hard for four quarters.

 

Denton and Carver had a great night, I can't wait to see their stats. Robbie Logan was a defensive beast. He is a D1 lineman and deserves much credit as does the entire Raceland OL/DL, they have been the catalyst for Raceland all year and does not get enough credit. Big plays by Watson, Selvage, Kelly, and Boyles. Big FG by Preston. Truely a team effort.

 

Good luck to Russell, I hope the make a big splash in the playoffs and finish out strong.

Ryan, I think you may have taken my comments differently then I intended. I wasn't saying you lied about the Russell, I believe that they played with less emotion in previous games. I just think they elivated their emotion in this game and that is a good thing.

 

I wasn't complaining about Raceland play, I was saying that they have done a lot of different things this year. Some games they have come out and passed a lot, some they have ran the Power I, some they have played the wishbone, some they have even ran the Wing T. tonight they were obviously using the Wishbone. I think they did a good job with it.

You're right, our kicking game is one part of our game we could improve on. All of the kicks out of bounds were by design. Teams normally return our kick offs to at least the 30, so sometimes if a team is racking up the return yards on us, they kick it out of bounds and give them the ball on the 35. We just can't get those high long kick offs.

 

Our punts are normally better then tonight, but we just had a bad punting night. That happens. But, normally our punts are a little better.

If Belfry beats JC,Russell might as well not even get on the bus. LOL

 

From what I have heard, Belfry has the big bodies on the line the compete with JC. Belfy stands a very good chance to win.

 

Russell will be fine.

I'm a little surprise and impressed in their ( Russell ) effort to mix it up on offense. Better things will come of that. Keep it it up.

 

Being a dimensional team only works if you have the big bodies to do it every year. And with today's complex defenses.........Thats not a good position to be in.

 

I applaud your effort in trying to work this out during the season and not just because your back is against a wall in a playoff game. Good job by the coaching staff to "for see" the situation.

I thought that the middle of the field was open for Raceland in many instances and frankly thought that they'd throw it, but they didn't. And for what it's worth, I thought Russell threw it better than I expected, and Raceland threw it less than I expected. The stats may suggest otherwise, however the Rams sure seemed to run their routes just far enough when they did throw it to move the chains.

 

:thumb: I just finished watching the game on t.v.. I agree with you on all points made. Raceland imo made it's mistakes (plenty of them) on the offensive side of the ball.

Raceland's defense looked very good once again. Russell broke 2 big plays with Abrams (that kid is a very good football player;)) for td's, runs of around 35 and 65 I believe it was. Take away those two big plays and this one is not close. I had not seen Russell untill tonight and I know that the WLGC radio crew made mention that they had changed a couple of things on defense that they hadn't been doing all season. Making adjustments in the secondary/LB keys. As I said, I am not sure what they were talking about bc I haven't seen Russell this season before tonight.

Russell has a good football team, their kids played hard and just were beaten by a better team tonight. Last year Russell was the better team in this game, tonight Raceland was. I hope that this series can go on and be a competative one like these first two have been. Russell should no doubt win the majority of the games between the two but one should never count Raceland out of this game. I can promise that Raceland will come to play and give it everything they have from the opening kickoff ntill the final buzzer.

 

I have had my fun on this thread and taken a couple of shots and given a couple. Also, I don't really think that much of the fire truck parade either, was just having fun with my post about it earlier. The way I look at this one was the Rams coaches prepared the team for a win, the Rams expected to win, knew they would win, went out and executed and got the win.....................On to next weeks game now.:thumb:
