I have always wondered why the map always looks similar to this. There always some exceptions but as a rule the larger population centers seem to always go Blue (Dem) and the rest of the country always goes Red (Gop). Why is that? Why do the bigger cities seem to always vote Democrat? Why do the rural areas always go Red?

I am really looking to my BGP Brothers and Sisters for some insight into this.

IMO, this is the result of the political realignment that started after the 64 Presidential Election. That Political Era, is near or at its end. From 1932-1964, in the previous political era the map would have looked a bit different. Don't have time to truly explain in full now, but basic political theory states that about every 30 some odd years, there is a political realignment in the country, and the two political parties, and what we are seeing this election is part of a new realignment and a new political era.

I believe that the big urban areas see life differently than small town-rural areas see life.

I believe that small town-rural people are more self-reliant and the big urban areas have become more dependent on government.

I believe that being packed into tight quarters people see to much of the negative part of life, because that they rub each other the wrong way and they cannot get away from it because of the tight quarters they live in. Whereas the small town-rural areas people have a chance to move away from others and let go of some their resentments.

I believe that smalltown-rural America gets to see the wonders of this country, whereas urbanites see building after building, while some are amazing, they do not compare to the wonders of nature.

Good post

There is an extremely large amount of reasons.

The most basic one is that the Democrat Party caters to big-city populations, in many, many regards. I may come up with a list later.

Let me guess, you're not a Democrat.

It's interesting. Looks like Morgan, Rowan, Carter and other counties in SE Kentucky are Democratic? And Fayette isn't?

Hey Pikeville! What the .....? :p:lol:

That map looks like a lot of EKY is democrat, shocking if true.

Misery loves company. People who are crowded into urban areas are disproportionately dependent on the federal government and elect liberal Democrats who perpetuate their misery. Many of the blue areas have not had a Republican mayor in decades.

I assume you would get shot if your a democrat in Oklahoma...

Yesterday CNN was reporting that Pennsylvania could come down to the area around Philly. According to this map, that is the only blue area is Penn.

What I heard on a Talk Show this morning was that McCain's camp has said he is having to count on Alabama to win Pennsylvania.

Supposedly an advisor said that Obama should carry Pittsburgh and Philly and that the part of Pennsylvania between is really Alabama by the way they vote.

I've always found this interesting as well.

One reason I think is that the major cities tend to have more minorities, like Miami for example, which tend to vote heavily democratic. Also the bigger cities seem to have a larger number of people in "poverty", which also tends to go heavily democratic....JMO.
